The mechanic is responsible for inspecting, servicing, and maintaining diesel-electric locomotives in compliance with federal and company safety regulations. They will troubleshoot malfunctions, perform engine repairs, and conduct metal fabrication or welding as needed.
Candidates must have at least two years of relevant heavy mechanic experience and a high school diploma or GED. Knowledge of FRA regulations and railroad environmental requirements is required, along with a valid driver's license.
The person in this position inspects, services, and maintains diesel locomotives in accordance with federal and company regulations, diagnoses diesel-engine malfunctions, and makes indicated repairs using hand tools, measuring instruments, and sometimes machine tools. He or she may operate mechanical equipment to assemble, repair, and fabricate metal parts and may be required to qualify as a shop-service locomotive engineer in accordance with FRA standards.
