Position Summary
Our Early Childhood Program is seeking an enthusiastic, energetic, and engaging Physical Education (Gym) Teacher to lead developmentally appropriate movement classes for children ages 1–4 years old. The ideal candidate will have experience in physical education and a passion for helping young children develop gross motor skills, coordination, confidence, and a lifelong love of movement.
Classes are held twice a week, with each class lasting 30 minutes. The instructor will plan and lead fun, age-appropriate activities that encourage physical development through games, obstacle courses, music, movement, and cooperative play.
Responsibilities
Plan and teach engaging 30-minute physical education classes for children ages 1–4.
Develop age-appropriate activities that promote:
Gross motor development
Balance and coordination
Strength and flexibility
Spatial awareness
Listening and following directions
Teamwork and social skills
Create a safe, positive, and inclusive environment where every child can participate and succeed.
Set up and put away equipment before and after each class.
Modify activities to meet the developmental needs of each age group.
Communicate and collaborate with classroom teachers regarding lesson objectives and student participation.
Ensure all activities follow school safety procedures.
Maintain a clean and organized gym or movement space.
Qualifications
Experience in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Recreation, Coaching, Dance, or a related field required.
Experience working with young children (ages 1–4) is strongly preferred.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) preferred.
Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
Creative, energetic, patient, and dependable.
Ability to work independently while collaborating with school staff.
Physical Requirements
Ability to actively demonstrate physical activities throughout each class.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
Ability to bend, squat, kneel, run, and move quickly with young children.
Ability to stand and remain active for the duration of each shift.
