DSI is seeking an experienced and motivated Team Lead to oversee day-to-day shipping and receiving operations in our warehouse. The Team Lead plays a vital role in supporting operations management, ensuring accuracy and efficiency, and fostering a culture of safety and teamwork. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to train and mentor warehouse associates.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Operations Manager is responsible for the comprehensive planning, organization, and coordination of daily warehouse and distribution operations. This role ensures the efficient execution of all warehousing activities, including shipping, receiving, and inventory management while meeting service level objectives (SLOs) and operational goals for both the company and its customers. Acting as the primary point of contact in the absence of the General Manager, this leader oversees employee performance, coach’s associates on best practices, and ensuring labor, timekeeping, and productivity standards are consistently met.
Supports the General Manager regarding customer accounts and relationships, leading new account start-ups, implementing training plans, conducting facility audits, processing purchase orders, generating operational reports, and taking corrective actions to maintain compliance with safety, security, and quality standards. The role also requires proactive management of equipment, assets, and maintenance needs, as well as fostering a culture of continuous improvement through problem-solving, root cause analysis, and process innovation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations Management
Oversee all warehouse functions, including inbound, outbound, shipping, receiving, and inventory management, ensuring efficient daily operations.
Collaborate with transportation teams to meet equipment and trucking needs, including timely yard checks.
Assist GMs with forecast demand, align resources for customers, and respond effectively to account start-ups, scope changes, and special requests.
Ensure compliance with LOS (Level of Service) and SLO (Service Level Objectives) requirements, meeting both company and customer expectations.
Labor & Workforce Management
Manage labor-to-revenue ratios and maintain budgetary controls while optimizing labor productivity.
Forecast, plan, and schedule daily manpower needs, adjusting staffing as workload fluctuates.
Monitor team performance, oversee overtime usage, and maintain manpower forecasts.
Provide coaching, counseling, performance evaluations, and corrective actions when necessary.
Employee Development & Engagement
Lead, mentor, and develop a goal-oriented team of associates, fostering a positive and safe work environment.
Guide associates through ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and targeted training plans that drive both individual and team success.
Drive employee engagement, retention, and career growth.
Equipment & Asset Management
Ensure effective utilization, inspection, and maintenance of warehouse equipment.
Control maintenance expenses, monitor proper equipment usage, and prevent overuse or downtime.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure adherence to OSHA regulations, company policies, and all safety protocols.
Reinforce a culture of safety and quality by leading daily safety meetings and performing routine facility audits focused on zero-damage handling and operational excellence.
Maintain compliance records and ensure all associates are adequately trained and licensed.
Continuous Improvement & Process Optimization
Identify opportunities to streamline processes, reduce errors, and improve efficiency.
Guide the team through change initiatives, ensuring successful adoption of solutions that improve productivity and quality.
Implement corrective actions and monitor improvements to ensure long-term success.
Financial & Performance Management
Manage purchase order (PO) processes and ensure accurate billing and revenue capture in line with customer contracts.
Generate operational reports, track key performance indicators, and provide improvement recommendations.
Maintain strong budgetary control, balancing cost efficiency with service excellence.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Education & Experience
A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in warehouse and distribution management, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, basic typing skills, and familiarity with the Warehouse Management System (WMS) are required.
Problem Solving
Ability to identify and resolve problems quickly and effectively. Demonstrate strong analytical skills to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
Communication
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly and persuasively in both individual and group settings. Must be able to communicate effectively during meetings, presentations, and day-to-day interactions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
