Overview
Patient transport will provide compassionate care and support while transporting patients in a safe, comfortable, courteous and efficient manner by wheelchair, bed or stretcher throughout the Medical Center. Patient transport may assist with the activities occurring in the office and the patient discharge area when needed. Assists staff in patient care.
Responsibilities
Conducts transports throughout the hospital in timely, safe manner following guidelines for safety principles and body mechanics to the performance of specific techniques.
Transports ambulatory, wheelchair, stretcher and bed-bound patients to and from designated areas.
Able to recognize changes in the patient’s condition and reports it to the appropriate caregiver.
Able to provide for the transport needs of patients of all ages and sociological background; to include neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
Provides for safety of all ages of patients during transport.
Responsible for care, cleaning and maintenance of all transport equipment used in the transport of patients.
Assists with maintaining a clean safe environment.
Responsible for supplies used in the transport of patients; i.e. O2 cylinders, warm blankets, etc.
Participates in economical utilization of supplies and ensures.
Attends in-service programs, required training/education and unit/Uses I Care principles to ensure proper patient identification, correct exam, and to improve patient communication and engagement.
Assist with orientation of new staff.
Assists in performance improvement (PI) activities by serving on PI teams as warranted, assisting with PI measures and supporting and implementing changes necessary for improvement.
Maintains proper isolation techniques.
Monitors oxygen equipment for storage and appropriate PSI for transport.
Utilizes computers to accurately document transport activities

Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Previous patient care experience or healthcare student preferred.
BLS required or achieved within first 90 days of employment.
