Collier Mosquito Control District is hiring! We are currently seeking a motivated and experienced Aircraft Maintenance Technician (rotor or fixed wing) to join our aviation team. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on aviation professional to support critical aircraft maintenance operations that directly protect public health.

In this role, you will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of rotorcraft airframes, powerplants, and specialized pesticide application systems, ensuring aircraft are safe, reliable, and mission-ready. Your work will support aerial mosquito control operations and contribute to innovative, environmentally responsible strategies that serve our community.

Description

The Aircraft Maintenance Technician I plays a critical role in keeping the District’s aviation operations safe, reliable, and mission-ready. This position is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing District aircraft, including airframes, powerplants, and specialized pesticide application systems. The work you do directly supports public health by ensuring aircraft are operated safely and effectively in mosquito control operations. This role requires hands-on technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and teamwork.

The Collier Mosquito Control District serves approximately 730 square miles in Southwest Florida. Our organization is driven by a multidisciplinary team committed to advancing public health through applied science and innovation. In this role, you will work closely with colleagues across Operations, Research, Finance, and Administration, contributing to coordinated efforts that support effective field activities and organizational excellence.

Our aviation program is a vital part of that mission, supporting aerial operations that protect residents, visitors, and natural resources throughout Collier County.

The Person We Are Looking For Will Have

  • A strong commitment to aircraft safety, quality maintenance, and regulatory compliance

  • Hands-on experience inspecting, servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing aircraft systems

  • The ability to work independently while collaborating with pilots, technicians, and supervisors

  • Comfort working in a hangar and field environments, including variable weather conditions

  • Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and respond to off-site maintenance needs when required

  • Professional communication skills and the ability to interact courteously with the public

  • Reliability, accountability, and regular on-site attendance

What We Would Like You to Have

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Current FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificates (preferred) OR at least 30 months of aircraft maintenance experience with the ability to obtain A&P certification within two years of hire

  • Ability to pass the Core and Public Health exams within six months of hire and maintain certification through continuing education

  • Proficiency using computerized technical manuals and FAA regulatory programs

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record

  • Ability to supply your own basic hand tools

  • Willingness to attend factory or specialized training, including occasional out-of-state travel

Experience with pesticide application systems, fabrication, welding, painting, or custom tooling is a plus.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This position involves heavy physical work and may require lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds frequently. The role includes climbing, kneeling, crouching, standing for extended periods, repetitive motion, and working with tools and equipment. Visual, hearing, and mental acuity are essential for safe aircraft operation and maintenance.

Work is performed primarily in a hangar environment and outdoor industrial settings, with exposure to hot or cold weather. Participation in maintenance and test flights may be required. Work schedules may include nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency response situations.

This full-time, non-exempt, hourly position offers a competitive wage commensurate with experience and includes performance reviews at 90 days, and annually thereafter. This position requires frequent handling of pesticides and fieldwork in remote areas in the hot and humid environment of Southwest Florida with exposure to biting insects and hazardous wildlife as part of a team.
