Group Leader – Part-Time

Statement of General Purpose

The Group Leader assists with the planning and implementation of high-quality afterschool programming for children enrolled in a Philadelphia-based elementary/middle school. The Group Leader is responsible for providing active supervision, facilitating engaging educational and recreational activities, supporting student development, and maintaining a safe, positive, and inclusive program environment.

Schedule and Hours

Position: Part-Time, School Year
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM–6:00 PM
Budgeted Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week
Additional Hours: Additional hours may be available based on program needs, including staff meetings, professional development, special events, field trips, and other approved activities.
Summer Employment: Summer employment may be available based on program funding, enrollment, and organizational needs but is not guaranteed.
Candidates must be available to consistently work the scheduled Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM–6:00 PM shift.

Examples of Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Facilitates high-quality educational, recreational, social-emotional, and skill-building programming for elementary and middle school students in accordance with program and contract objectives.
Strictly follows weekly lesson plans and program activities developed by the Group Supervisor and/or Site Director.
Supervises children at all times, ensuring their safety and well-being through active supervision, engagement, and appropriate interaction.
Serves as a positive role model for youth by building strong relationships with participants and demonstrating and promoting positive, respectful, and professional communication and behavior.
Monitors individual and group behavior and maintains a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment.
Addresses behavioral concerns using positive, non-confrontational, non-physical, and developmentally appropriate techniques.
Supports children in developing conflict-resolution, communication, problem-solving, and social-emotional skills.
Immediately reports significant behavioral concerns, safety concerns, injuries, or other issues affecting a child's well-being to the Group Supervisor and/or Site Director.
Completes incident and injury reports accurately and in a timely manner, as required.
Maintains a clean, organized, welcoming, and safe program space.
Facilitates snack distribution, homework assistance, project-based learning activities, recreational activities, enrichment activities, field trips, and other program activities.
Monitors and records daily attendance, meal/snack tracking, and other required program documentation.
Assists with the preparation, organization, and cleanup of program materials, supplies, and activity areas.
Follows all organizational, school, program, safety, and behavioral policies and procedures.
Communicates effectively with the Group Supervisor, Site Director, other program staff, school leadership and staff, students, families, and community partners.
Develops and maintains positive and productive working relationships with students, families, coworkers, school personnel, community partners, and other stakeholders.
Attends required professional development sessions, staff meetings, trainings, and internal and external meetings.
Assists the Group Supervisor and Site Director with program-related duties and responsibilities, as needed.
Performs related duties as required.

A genuine passion for working with children and supporting their academic, social, and emotional development.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following:

Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, Elementary Education, Human Services, or a related field, with at least two years of experience working with children and/or youth; OR
In lieu of an Associate degree, a high school diploma or equivalent with at least two years of experience working with children and/or youth.

Additional Requirements

Must be available to work Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM–6:00 PM during the school year.
Candidates must be able to consistently work the full scheduled shift. Availability for only a portion of the scheduled hours does not meet the requirements of this position.
Must be dependable and punctual and consistently report to all scheduled shifts.
Additional hours may be required or available for approved program activities, staff meetings, professional development, field trips, special events, and other program needs.
Ability to successfully complete all required background checks and clearances.
Ability to provide required educational documentation, professional references, and other onboarding documentation.
Must comply with all applicable organizational, school, program, and regulatory requirements.
