Come join our team! The Capitol Region Council of Governments (CRCOG) is seeking a dynamic and collaborative professional to become our newest Senior Planner, primarily to perform Transportation Safety Program Coordination. This position will report to CRCOG's Director of Transportation Planning, or their assignee.

This position will be primarily responsible for coordination efforts associated with advancing non-infrastructure related recommendations from various CRCOG transportation safety plans. These tasks may include, but not be limited to, the following efforts as they apply to the CRCOG region:

  • Organizing CRCOG Vision Zero Task Force Committee meetings and CRCOG Traffic Incident Management outreach
  • Coordinating with Watch for Me CT and UConn's T2 Center on pedestrian/road safety campaigns
  • Developing and implementing strategies to identify, recruit, and engage CRCOG municipalities and community members in roadway safety campaigns and Vision Zero initiatives
  • Developing, coordinating, and fostering community partners, including town governments, schools, state agencies, local police, and advocacy organizations
  • Developing safety education and marketing materials as needed
  • Presenting safety education items to CRCOG Committees or Boards

The candidate should have strong abilities in the use of word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, and other computer software. The ideal candidate will have the ability to: communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing; prepare clear, accurate records and reports; provide oversight of community partners, interns, and volunteers; establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with staff, managers, community members, and municipal leaders; handle multiple projects simultaneously and use good judgment in prioritizing work assignments; and work independently.

The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Urban/Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, Education, Social Work, or related field and four years of increasingly responsible experience or a combination of training and work experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform required duties. A Master's degree is preferred but not required and would count as one year of professional planning experience.
