The Resort Janitor is a vital member of Broadwell Hospitality Group, responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, appearance, and overall presentation of all public areas throughout the resort campus in Oswego, NY. This role is essential in creating an outstanding first impression for every guest by maintaining a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming environment at all times. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, demonstrates keen attention to detail, works independently, and adapts swiftly to the dynamic needs of a busy resort setting. This position supports multiple departments and upholds the high standards that are synonymous with Broadwell Hospitality properties.
Responsibilities
The Resort Janitor's core duties include:
Maintaining Public Areas: Ensure that all public spaces—including hotel lobbies, restrooms, hallways, elevators, stairwells, conference center common areas, restaurant and pool entrances, fitness center, administrative offices, employee breakrooms, restrooms, exterior patios, walkways, and guest seating areas—are consistently clean and visually appealing.
Grounds and Exterior Appearance: Pick up litter across the property, empty outdoor trash receptacles, sweep sidewalks and entrances, remove cigarette butts from designated smoking zones, pressure wash sidewalks, patios, and building entrances when necessary, maintain cleanliness of parking lots and drive lanes, remove cobwebs from building exteriors, clean exterior windows and doors, report any landscape concerns to management, and assist with seasonal decorating and property setups.
Waste Management: Empty interior and exterior trash cans, replace liners, transport waste to dumpsters, sort recycling when applicable, and ensure dumpster enclosures are clean and orderly. Clean and sanitize waste containers regularly.
Public Restroom Upkeep: Maintain restrooms to the highest standards by cleaning toilets, urinals, sinks, counters, mirrors, and floors. Restock essential supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, soap, hand sanitizer, and air fresheners, and promptly report any plumbing issues.
Floor Care: Vacuum carpets, sweep hard floors, wet mop all public flooring, spot-clean carpet stains, dust mop large areas, and assist with carpet extraction, floor stripping, and waxing as scheduled.
General Cleaning: Dust furniture and fixtures, clean glass and mirrors, wipe handrails, sanitize high-touch surfaces, remove fingerprints from doors and glass, clean vending areas, and maintain neat and organized storage rooms.
Resort Support: Provide operational assistance to various departments including Housekeeping, Maintenance, Front Desk, Food & Beverage, Conference Center, Water Park, and Special Events. Help with event setup and breakdown, furniture movement, table and chair arrangement, deliveries, snow removal, emergency cleanups, and guest requests.
Seasonal Responsibilities:
Winter: Shovel entrances, apply ice melt, assist with snow removal, and ensure emergency exits remain accessible.
Spring/Summer: Perform pressure washing, clean outdoor furniture, prepare patios, clean waterfront and pool decks, and support landscaping efforts.
Fall: Manage leaf cleanup, seasonal storage tasks, prepare for winter, and store outdoor furniture.
Safety: Adhere strictly to OSHA and company safety guidelines, properly handle cleaning chemicals, wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), report hazards immediately, follow lockout/tagout procedures as needed, maintain a safe work environment, and assist during emergencies.
Customer Service: Foster a positive guest experience by smiling and greeting guests warmly, providing directions when asked, responding professionally to guest requests, notifying supervisors of any guest concerns, maintaining a professional appearance, and proudly representing Broadwell Hospitality.
Equipment Operation: Skillfully operate equipment such as vacuum cleaners, auto scrubbers, floor buffers, carpet extractors, pressure washers, snow blowers, hand tools, trash and cleaning carts, and power washers.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous experience in custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or maintenance roles is advantageous.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently.
Excellent work ethic, reliability, and outstanding attendance record.
Positive attitude and willingness to support other departments.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently throughout the day.
Physical capability to frequently stand and walk for long periods, lift up to 50 pounds, push and pull cleaning equipment, bend, kneel, squat, climb ladders, and reach overhead, while working indoors and outdoors in diverse weather conditions.
