Responsibilities

Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks for youth ages 6-18 while maintaining strict hygiene and safety standards. Manage food inventory, complete daily service documentation, and perform comprehensive kitchen cleaning duties.

Requirements

Candidates must be 18 years or older, pass a background check and drug screening, and be able to lift 50lbs and stand for long periods. A current Food Handler Permit is required or must be acquired.

Title: Summer Youth Development Professional (Food Program)

Location: 141 N 600 W, Salt Lake City, UT 84116

Reports to:           Program Director

Salary Range:      $15-17 DOE

Hours:                   Every day Monday-Friday, 20-25 hours per week, 1:00pm-6:00pm (depending on Club need)

JOB SUMMARY:
Youth Development Professionals involved in our Food Program prepare and serve nutritious meals each day for children ages six to eighteen. They play an active role in protecting our youth by practicing safe food handling and cleanliness. Proper and adequate nutrition aids in our three priority outcomes: academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles. Youth Development Professionals help to ensure that every Club Member has an Optimal Club Experience.

 

Successful Youth Development Professionals have a passion for serving others and contributing to the wellbeing of the community at large. They have the ability to connect with young people and offer supportive relationships. They are team players willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that Club Members are safe, recognized, and given the opportunity to learn new skills.

Key Roles (Essential Job Responsibilities):

  • Establish rapport with youth ages 6-18 and provide fun, meaningful meal services
  • Prepare and serve meals and snacks daily according to food program requirements, menus, and product provided from available inventory and donated goods
  • Monitor food inventory and communicate which food items are available and need to be utilized
  • Complete required daily meal service records and documentation, with both paper and online records
  • Ensure kitchen operations meet Utah Health Department standards and Food Bank meal service requirements
  • Perform a variety of cleaning duties:
    • Clean food preparation and service areas (sweep, mop, clean sinks and counters)
    • Dishwashing
    • Clean cafeteria tables with approved bleach solutions
    • Wash towels and aprons
    • Periodic cleaning of storage areas, refrigerators, freezer, oven, stove, and shelving
    • Follow strict hygiene and safety practices

 

Needed Knowledge:

  • Able to learn and navigate required nutrition and meal service websites
  • Able to perform basic computer tasks and read and follow written instructions
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn and implement Trauma-Informed Practices to create an environment of safety, awareness, trust, and empathy with youth and fellow staff members
  • Social-emotional competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making
  • Ability to work in high-energy, loud, and active settings with large groups of youth and teens
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with Club Members, peers, etc.
  • Some group management skills are an advantage in this role

 

Requirements:

  • Willing to acquire and maintain a current Food Handler Permit
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time (5 hours consecutively)
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs sporadically throughout work shift
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, reach, stretch, etc. throughout a regular work shift
  • 18 years and over

Preferred qualifications:

  • Spanish/English bilingual
