Lead a flagship defence technology programme and help shape the future of mission-critical capabilities
At Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together. If you join us, you can play your part as a Programme Manager at Ashton House, near Bristol, Gloucestershire.
This is an opportunity to lead a high-profile, strategically important programme within our Mission Systems business. You'll play a pivotal role in delivering complex technology and engineering solutions that support defence capability, national security, and future growth. Working at the forefront of defence innovation, you'll lead multidisciplinary teams, influence senior stakeholders, and help deliver outcomes that truly matter.
The role
As a Programme Manager, you'll be responsible for leading a complex and high-value growth programme, driving successful delivery from mobilisation through to execution. You'll join a developing team at an exciting stage, giving you the opportunity to shape ways of working, build capability, and make a lasting impact across the business.
This role offers excellent career development opportunities within a globally recognised engineering and defence organisation, while enabling you to contribute to projects that support the safety and security of the UK.
Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:
Lead multidisciplinary teams to successfully mobilise and deliver complex programmes and growth initiatives
Manage the delivery of large, technically complex engineering and technology contracts for Ministry of Defence and commercial customers
Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to maintain confidence, engagement, and programme success
Drive programme performance, risk management, financial objectives, and delivery commitments
Develop and growing high-performing teams that support both successful programme delivery and future business growth
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Programme Manager
Demonstrable experience leading and delivering large-scale complex engineering or technology programmes valued at £75m+
Strong project and programme management expertise, including bid, mobilisation, delivery, and service integration activities
Experience identifying, managing, and mitigating programme risks within complex delivery environments
Proven commercial awareness and experience operating within large, high-value programmes
Experience building, leading, and developing high-performing teams while engaging confidently with senior stakeholders and customers
Qualifications for the Programme Manager
Holds a recognised project management qualification such as APM PMQ, ChPP or equivalent.
Holds a clean UK driving license
Be eligible for a minimum SC level (UK) security with the potential for further clearance if required.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
