Full job description
This is a 12-month contract.
When we put unexpected teams in the same room, we unleash bold thinking with the power to inspire life-changing medicines. In-person working gives us the platform to connect, work at pace and challenge perceptions. That’s why we work, on average, a minimum of three days per week from the office. But that doesn’t mean we’re not flexible. We balance the expectation of being in the office while respecting individual flexibility. Join us in our unique and ambitious world.
The Patient Experience Team (PEX) ensures the patient voice informs Alexion AstraZeneca Rare Disease priorities across development, launch planning, access, awareness, and healthcare system engagement. By connecting insights, internal collaborators, external partners, and patient communities, PEX helps embed patient perspectives into decisions that improve outcomes in rare disease.
This coverage role will support the development and implementation of patient recruitment and engagement strategies across Alexion Rare Disease studies. The Patient Recruitment Lead will create integrated, data-driven plans that leverage patient voice, strategic partnerships, healthcare data, digital and non-digital tactics, and emerging technologies to improve recruitment, engagement, and the trial experience.
While part of the Global Medical Affairs (GMA) team, this role collaborates closely with adjacent functions, including Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Patient Advocacy, alliance partners, vendors, and cross-functional collaborators.
You will be responsible for:
Leading the development and implementation of patient recruitment and engagement plans for assigned studies, integrating patient insights, recruitment strategies, and tailored approaches for patients, caregivers, and investigative sites.
Driving patient-centered clinical trial design and execution through the application of Patient, Caregiver, and Site Friction Coefficients, Clinical Trial Diversity strategies, and other methodologies that improve the participant experience and support enrollment goals.
Managing execution of recruitment and engagement initiatives, including study materials, communications, training, translations, and implementation activities across global studies.
Evaluating, selecting, and managing external vendors, partners, and innovative solutions to deliver effective and scalable recruitment and engagement programs.
Building strong partnerships across Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Patient Advocacy, and external partners to align patient engagement strategies and support successful clinical trial recruitment and participation.
You will need to have:
Experience with patient-focused clinical trial recruitment services, solutions, and engagement activities, with a solid understanding of clinical development processes and global clinical trial operations.
Demonstrated project management skills, including delivery of global activities across complex studies or programs in a matrixed environment.
Ability to build strong internal and external relationships across countries, cultures, functions, alliance partners, and vendors.
Experience managing vendors, budgets, timelines, and project deliverables.
Strong written, verbal, presentation, and collaborator management skills, with the ability to navigate a matrix environment.
Interest in applying generative and agentic AI tools to improve productivity, process efficiency, and recruitment and engagement workflows.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10-15%, as needed.
The duties of this role are generally conducted in an office environment. As is typical of an office-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation, to use a computer; communicate via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; and maintain general availability during standard business hours.
We would prefer for you to have:
5-8 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in clinical practice, healthcare, life sciences, or drug development; advanced clinical, scientific, or business degree preferred.
Experience supporting complex global clinical studies in rare disease and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Prior experience applying generative or agentic AI tools to individual or team workflows.
Familiarity with using Veeva platform
At Alexion, you will find a collaborative culture that encourages innovation and a diverse environment where your contributions are valued. You will have the opportunity to be at the forefront of rare disease research and make a meaningful difference in patients' lives. Ready to lead and inspire? Apply now and take the first step towards a fulfilling career at Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease.
