Akima Facilities Operations (AFO) is looking for a Allied Trade Technician with a specialty in welding to work in Jolon, California. To join our team of outstanding professionals, apply today!
Under general supervision, the Allied Trades Tech is responsible for applying welding skills to maintenance projects, fabrication (metal and carpentry), paint preparation, sand blasting and painting, vehicle/trailer body repair, safety inspections and load testing procedures. Responsible for water and fuel drum/blivet inspection maintenance repair and testing operations.
Responsibilities
Welds metal components together to fabricate or repair products, such as machine parts, vehicles & equipment, motors and generators, according to work orders, using brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment.
Welds metal parts together, using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes, performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding, repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes and increases size of metal parts, positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
Locates and repairs cracks in industrial engine cylinder heads, using inspection equipment and gas torch, may perform repairs only and be required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards of Governmental agencies or professional and technical associations.
Uses accepted trade methods and a variety of manual welding processes, performs welding duties using electric, acetylene and/or inert gas shielded welding processes to weld various types of metals in various sizes, shapes, and thickness, including dissimilar metals.
Work is performed in a flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead position.
Work processes include pre-heating, hazing, bead welding, tack welding, flame cutting, and heat treating.
Welders utilize shielded arc, metal inert gas (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG), and silver brazing oxygen/acetylene cutting plasma arc methods to fabricate and repair aluminum, steel and armor plate materials.
Qualifications
Must be qualified and certified to American Welding Society (AWS) Standard certifications for AWS D1.1 Structural welder; will have 120 days from start of employment to obtain the above certification if not already completed.
Must be a US Citizen with ability to pass a thorough background check and pre-employment drug test.
Welders must be capable of welding dissimilar metals such as copper to steel.
Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, sketches and diagrams.
The work involves standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing. Work may be done in awkward and cramped quarters.
May handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Constant exposure to dirt, grease, noise, odors, smoke and fumes with requirement for protective equipment such as safety glasses, ear plugs, safety shoes, aprons, gloves, welding helmets, and goggles.
Preferable Qualification:
Experience in applying knowledge of welding standards and how various metals and alloys react to different welding standards and how various metals and alloys react to different welding processes and techniques.
Welds metal parts and structures that may vary in size, shape and thickness.
Welders must be able to lay out work, positioning and clamping templates; jigs and other guides to repair, modify, or fabricate metal items for all types of equipment including the repair of light and intricate made mechanical parts which must fit to close tolerance.
Welds stainless steel and aluminum, where complete penetration/fusion is required and where close tolerances must be met.
Adjusts machine to penetration/fusion is required and where close tolerances must be met.
Adjusts machine to permit welding materials of various thickness.
Work is usually performed on concrete floors or as required on or in equipment being repaired.
Subject to burns and eye injury when welding.
