ASC Administrator
About this role
Position Overview
The ASC Administrator will be responsible for the overall leadership, development, and operational success of the surgery center—from pre-opening planning through full-scale operations. This includes clinical quality oversight, financial performance, regulatory compliance, physician relationships, and team development.
Key Responsibilities
ASC Development & Facility Launch
- Lead all aspects of new center startup, including operational readiness, policy development, staffing models, and vendor selection
- Partner with physicians, executive leadership, and project teams to ensure a successful and timely center opening
- Establish workflows, infrastructure, and systems to support efficient, high-quality surgical services
- Drive growth strategy, case volume ramp-up, and service line development, with a strong emphasis on orthopedics
Clinical & Quality Oversight
- Direct, monitor, and evaluate clinical operations to ensure exceptional patient care and surgical outcomes
- Oversee Quality Improvement, Risk Management, Infection Control, and Patient Safety programs
- Ensure adherence to best practices in perioperative services and surgical workflows
Regulatory Compliance & Accreditation
- Develop, implement, and maintain ASC policies and procedures in alignment with state and federal regulations
- Ensure compliance with CMS Conditions for Coverage, OSHA, CLIA, and accreditation standards (AAAHC, Joint Commission, etc.)
- Lead survey readiness efforts and maintain continuous regulatory compliance
Operational & Financial Leadership
- Oversee day-to-day operations, including scheduling, staffing, case flow, and supply chain management
- Manage budgets, financial performance, and operational KPIs to ensure efficiency and profitability
- Identify opportunities for growth, cost containment, and operational improvement
Staff Leadership & Physician Collaboration
- Recruit, hire, and develop a high-performing clinical and administrative team
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence
- Build strong relationships with surgeons and stakeholders to support physician engagement and case growth
Strategic Execution
- Translate organizational strategy into clear operational plans and measurable outcomes
- Support service line expansion and continuous improvement initiatives
Administrative Duties
- Report directly to the Governing Body and Senior Leadership
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or related field required
- Master’s degree (MHA, MBA, or MSN) preferred
Licensure
- Registered Nurse (RN) license preferred
Experience
- 8–10 years of healthcare experience required
- 5+ years of ASC Administrator or healthcare leadership experience, preferably in an Ambulatory Surgery Center
- Proven experience with ASC startup, expansion, or new facility openings strongly preferred
- Orthopedic surgery experience highly desirable
Skills & Expertise
- Strong knowledge of ASC operations, surgical workflows, and perioperative services
- Deep understanding of CMS, AAAHC/Joint Commission, and regulatory requirements
- Demonstrated success in healthcare operations management, budgeting, and financial performance
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
