About the role
PURPOSE: To support the Deli Manager in performing the daily operations in the deli category of a retail location. To assist in meeting the goals and objectives set by the Store Manager while making each customers’ experience exceptional.
What you'll do
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
1. CUSTOMER SERVICE
Provide internal and external customers with excellent service at all times.
Treat people fairly, consistently, and with respect.
Ensure efficient, informative, and friendly service in all areas according to established customer service vision and standards.
Use appropriate and professional language, behavior, appearance, and overall conduct with or in the presence of customers, vendors, and store personnel according to BCS and store policies.
Educate non-member customers about the co-op business model, mission, values, and the advantages of cooperative ownership.
2. RECEIVING, PROCESSING, AND STOCKING
Inspect incoming deliveries for damage, expiration dates, and overall quality and report issues to the Department Manager.
Unload, process, and sign for deliveries as necessary.
Stock displays according to established schematics.
Cull short-date, damaged, or low quality items and follow established recording and disposal procedures.
Maintain well-organized displays, ensuring items are properly rotated, faced, and that fixtures are clean.
Ensure accuracy of price labeling and signage; report discrepancies to POS.
Follow established systems to ensure proper storage, handling and backstock-to-shelf rotation of all items.
3. OPERATIONS
Assist in the coordination of department productivity according to store needs.
Order according to location purchasing and contract guidelines and ensure appropriate inventory levels.
Maintain systems, staffing, and record keeping for receiving deliveries.
Ensure adequate amount of tools and production supplies.
Ensure all retail displays are attractive and product is abundant and front & faced.
Ensure accurate signage, pricing, and labeling.
Participate in regular department inventories.
Follow standard operating procedures in order to meet OSHA, health department, Organic, HAACP, COOL, and other relevant department standards.
Maintain the food bar and self-service areas to ensure cleanliness standards are met and that displays look fresh, appetizing, and abundant.
Maintain organized and efficient food prep areas to ensure timely delivery of orders.
Use standard operating procedures at all times to ensure employee safety and product integrity.
Pursue continuing education opportunities when available and appropriate.
4. LOCATION DUTIES
Ensure carts and baskets are available to customers in designated areas.
Perform various cleaning and maintenance duties including but not limited to the retail floor, dining areas, restrooms, and facility grounds.
Maintain restroom cleanliness throughout the day and ensure adequate supplies of tissue and towels.
Monitor cooler and freezer temperatures and immediately report deviations from established norms.
Perform opening and closing procedures including set-up and tear-down of displays, cleaning, and security procedures.
Participate in regular store inventories.
Follow co-op policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and other co-op documents.
Take responsibility for the effectiveness of your training and performance.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Department or Store Manager or the Person-In-Charge.
5. COMMUNICATION
Attend regular staff meetings.
Provide effective communication to ensure productive, knowledgeable work teams.
Maintain an environment of positive communication among store personnel in order to promote stronger work teams.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Outstanding customer service skills
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Ability to lift up to 50lbs, reach, bend, and climb
Willingness to work in coolers and freezers
Willingness to work outside in the elements
Regular, predictable attendance
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Attention to efficiency, detail, and accuracy
Familiarity with Windows 7 operating system
