PositionSummary
The VDJ laboratory (vdjlab.com) at the Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases and Therapeutics, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, is hiring a Research Technician to advance our mission of unraveling synaptic degeneration mechanisms in Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia. Our work integrates mouse models and human iPSC-derived neurons, employing cutting-edge techniques in histopathology, microscopy, biochemistry, subcellular proteomics, mouse behavior, viral gene manipulation, and cell biology.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
-Independent research: 70%
Contribute to the completion of an independent research project for which a strong foundation has already been laid, under the guidance of the PI, and in alignment with the lab’s objective of understanding synaptic degeneration in Parkinson’s disease.
-Research support: 10%
Contribute to the collaborative research environment by assisting other lab members with mouse breeding, weaning, genotyping, and related record-keeping.
-Lab operations: 20%
Oversee lab operations, ensuring safety and compliance, managing and organizing supplies, and maintaining overall lab functionality.
Conditions of Employment

Required Education & Experience
- BA/BS/MS in the neurosciences, biological, biomedical, or biochemical sciences.
-Hands-on research experience in a laboratory setting, excluding graduate coursework.
- Experience in cell culture development and maintenance, including iPSCs-derived neurons, primary mouse neurons, and proficiency with live-cell imaging, gene-transfer techniques, qPCR, and Western blotting. Demonstrated experience in iPSC to neuronal differentiation will be advantageous.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- A genuine passion for neuroscience and neurodegeneration, coupled with the willingness, dedication, and perseverance needed to excel in and complete the chosen tasks.
- Proven interest and ability to learn new concepts, comprehend scientific literature, and master new techniques, including willingness to learn and contribute to mouse experiments.

- Strong background in cell and molecular biology with a proven track record of success in a neuroscience/cell biology research lab.
