Responsibilities

Coordinate and develop advanced human stem cell models and differentiation workflows, specifically focusing on iPSC and ESC culture. Oversee molecular and functional validation assays and provide technical guidance and training to research collaborators.

Requirements

Requires a PhD in Molecular Biology, Stem Cell Biology, or a related field with extensive hands-on experience in human pluripotent stem cell culture and neural differentiation. Must possess strong practical knowledge of molecular biology methods and excellent organizational skills.

Full job description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated specialist to coordinate and further develop our advanced human stem cell models and differentiation workflows. The successful candidate will oversee iPSC and ESC cell culture, differentiation into neural and other relevant cell types, molecular and functional assays, and imaging workflows, while ensuring robust model availability across diverse research projects.

This position offers the opportunity to shape and optimize an integrated workflow spanning human stem cell maintenance through to differentiated cellular models and their validation.

Key Responsibilities
The role involves coordinating the day-to-day operation of advanced human stem cell model workflows, ensuring that all activities run efficiently, reproducibly, and reliably. This includes overseeing the culture, cryopreservation, thawing, passaging, and quality control of human embryonic stem cell (ESC) and induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines to ensure robust model availability across research projects.

A key aspect of the position is the implementation, optimization, and benchmarking of stem cell differentiation protocols. This includes developing and maintaining workflows for the differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells into neurons, microglia, and other relevant cell types.

The role also supports the establishment and use of cellular disease models, particularly in the context of neurodegenerative disease research. This includes optimizing in vitro cellular models, investigating early molecular and functional changes in disease-relevant systems, and ensuring that stem cell-derived models are suitable for downstream experimental applications.

In addition, the candidate is responsible for carrying out and coordinating molecular, biochemical, and functional validation assays. This includes DNA and RNA isolation, PCR and qPCR, immunocytochemistry, imaging, viability and cytotoxicity assays, FACS analysis, and sample preparation for RNA sequencing, mass spectrometry, and related downstream analyses.

Finally, the role provides integral support across a variety of research projects. In addition to providing readily available model systems, the candidate is guiding new users through structured workflows, providing guidance to collaborators, and supporting training in stem cell culture, differentiation, and experimental best practices.

Our expectations of you
Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Stem Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, or a related field.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with human embryonic stem cells and human induced pluripotent stem cells culture.
  • Demonstrated expertise in neural differentiation workflows.
  • Strong practical knowledge of molecular biology methods, such as PCR/qPCR, immunocytochemistry, viability assays and microscopy.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience optimizing and benchmarking stem cell culture conditions and differentiation protocols.
  • Experience developing neurodegenerative disease models and other advanced stem cell-derived model systems
  • Familiarity with cell viability and cytotoxicity and apoptotic assays

What we offer in return

  • A coordinating role in a cutting-edge research environment developing novel therapeutic tools.
  • Opportunity to develop, optimize, and standardize advanced human stem cell culture and differentiation workflows.
  • A collaborative, international and interdisciplinary research community.

The successful candidate will play a central role in ensuring reliable access to high-quality human stem cell models, supporting efficient, reproducible, and well-documented workflows from stem cell maintenance through differentiation, experimental assays, imaging, and downstream analysis.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).

This is a full-time position for 1 year and 5 months. Starting date is 1 August 2026.

The workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus.

Application and contact
Please submit your online application no later than Monday 6 July 2026 (23:59 Danish time). Open the “Apply now” link, fill out the form and attach your motivated application, CV and exam certificates.
