Position Summary

The Assistant Machine Maintenance Manager is responsible for supporting the leadership, planning, and execution of all maintenance activities within Gwynedd Manufacturing's machining and production operations. This role serves as a key leader within the Maintenance Department, overseeing maintenance technicians, driving equipment reliability initiatives, and ensuring the effective execution of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.

A primary responsibility of this position is the administration, development, and continuous improvement of the facility's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). The Assistant Machine Maintenance Manager will lead CMMS strategy, asset management, maintenance planning, work order management, spare parts control, and maintenance reporting to improve equipment uptime, labor efficiency, and operational performance.

Working closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain teams, this individual will leverage maintenance data and reliability metrics to reduce downtime, improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), and support business growth. The ideal candidate combines strong leadership skills, hands-on technical maintenance expertise, and proven experience establishing world-class maintenance processes within a high-volume manufacturing environment.

This role will be instrumental in developing maintenance personnel, optimizing maintenance systems, strengthening inventory management practices, and ensuring compliance with all company safety standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements. The Assistant Machine Maintenance Manager serves as a key partner to the Machine Maintenance Manager and provides departmental leadership in their absence.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership & Department Management

Assist in leading the daily operations of the Machine Maintenance Department, ensuring timely completion of maintenance requests while minimizing production downtime.
Supervise, prioritize, and coordinate maintenance activities based on production demands and business priorities.
Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, mentorship, and technical guidance to maintenance technicians while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Assist with employee performance management, including training, onboarding, skill development, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions when necessary.
Monitor departmental productivity and identify opportunities to improve maintenance response times, efficiency, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
Promote and enforce all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and safe work practices throughout the maintenance department.
Serve as the Maintenance Manager's backup during absences and assist with departmental decision-making and operational leadership.

CMMS Administration & Asset Management

Serve as the primary administrator and subject matter expert for the facility's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Lead CMMS implementation, configuration, optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives to improve maintenance planning and equipment reliability.
Develop and maintain equipment asset hierarchies, preventive maintenance schedules, equipment history records, and standardized maintenance procedures.
Ensure all maintenance work orders, labor utilization, parts consumption, downtime events, and repair histories are accurately documented within the CMMS.
Generate and analyze maintenance KPIs including equipment uptime, preventive maintenance compliance, Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), maintenance backlog, and downtime trends.
Train maintenance technicians, supervisors, and stakeholders on CMMS utilization and best practices.
Establish and maintain maintenance planning and scheduling workflows through the CMMS to improve maintenance efficiency and asset reliability.
Partner with Production, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to leverage CMMS data for continuous improvement and operational decision-making.

Maintenance Operations

Perform advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of CNC machining centers, lathes, automation systems, robotics, conveyors, and associated production equipment.
Diagnose complex electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, servo, and PLC-related failures to identify root causes and implement permanent corrective actions.
Coordinate and oversee emergency repairs to minimize production interruptions while ensuring repairs are completed safely and effectively.
Develop, maintain, and continuously improve preventative and predictive maintenance programs to maximize equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
Ensure all maintenance activities are properly documented, including work orders, repairs, equipment history, and preventative maintenance records.
Assist in evaluating equipment performance trends and recommend capital improvements, upgrades, or replacement strategies.

Automation & Continuous Improvement

Design, implement, troubleshoot, and optimize automation and robotic systems to improve manufacturing efficiency and reduce manual operations.
Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Production teams to improve machine reliability, reduce recurring failures, and increase production capacity.
Lead root cause investigations related to equipment failures and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Identify opportunities to improve maintenance procedures, spare parts management, tooling, and equipment standardization.
Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility.

Vendor & Inventory Management

Coordinate vendor service visits, equipment installations, and outside contractors while ensuring compliance with company safety standards.
Obtain quotes, source replacement components, and manage parts procurement to support maintenance activities.
Assist in maintaining critical spare parts inventory and identifying inventory optimization opportunities.
Support maintenance budgeting by monitoring repair costs, vendor expenditures, and equipment maintenance expenses.

QualificationsQualifications & Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or technical certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, or related field preferred.
5+ years of industrial maintenance experience with CNC equipment, automation systems, PLCs, robotics, or related manufacturing equipment.
Previous experience leading or supervising maintenance technicians in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
Extensive knowledge of CNC machine repair, electrical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical systems, servo systems, and PLC troubleshooting.
Experience with Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Allen-Bradley, or similar CNC/PLC control systems preferred.
Strong understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance methodologies.
Ability to interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
Experience implementing continuous improvement initiatives within a manufacturing environment.
Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple competing demands.
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization.
Demonstrated experience administering, implementing, or optimizing a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) required.
Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

PLC programming and troubleshooting experience.
Robotics programming and integration experience.
Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience.
OSHA safety training or related certifications.
Experience supporting high-volume CNC manufacturing operations.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

This position is based in a manufacturing environment and may require the following over extended periods of time up to a full 8-hour work shift (excluding lunch and breaks): stand, walk, sit, squat or bend, kneel and rise, lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to — and occasionally exceeding — 50 pounds, view a computer or other digital screen, work on a computer, workstation or comparable system, and make accurate entries in such systems. Manual dexterity and fine motor skills are required for detailed assembly and precision work. Work may take place in areas with varying temperatures or no climate control, varying noise levels, and production equipment in motion.
