As a Cardiac Device Technician at WCVM, you will play a vital role in supporting our electrophysiology and cardiology teams by managing pacemaker and automatic implantable cardiac defibrillator (AICD) technologies across multiple platforms. You will work closely with providers to ensure accurate device interpretation, timely clinical insights, and exceptional patient education – both in person and through remote monitoring solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of cardiac device technical processes and equipment for all major manufacturers, including St. Jude, Medtronic, Boston Scientific/Guidant, and Biotronik.
  • Interrogate and reprogram cardiac devices and generate detailed reports for provider review.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of patient assessments and clinical/technical management in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Provide device education and training to patients and caregivers.
  • Maintain familiarity with insurance guidelines and billing codes related to device services.
  • Oversee management of remote monitoring equipment and accessories.
  • Coordinate patient enrollment for home monitoring across all device platforms.
  • Manage urgent and non-urgent remote monitoring alerts promptly and effectively.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients and device representatives regarding device performance, inquiries, and complaints.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, co-workers, and patients.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment within the device clinic.
  • Participate in training initiatives to ensure efficient operation of the device clinic.
  • Adhere to OSHA and HIPAA regulations to maintain patient safety and confidentiality.
  • Perform additional tasks or services directed by the physician or administrator to support the team and ensure high-quality patient care.
  • This position may include travel to Winchester Cardiology outreach offices located in Martinsburg, WV, and Front Royal, VA, to provide cardiac device support.
  • Perform triage and wound checks (If Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse, although not required for the position), and applicable responsibilities, including:
  • Collaborating with physicians to determine appropriate care plans.
  • Assessing and managing post-device implant wounds, including staple/suture removal, dressing changes, hematoma management, and photo documentation in EMR.
  • Completing accurate wound documentation in Excel and Epic.
  • Scheduling follow-up appointments and recording vital signs.
  • Providing clinical direction within the nursing scope of practice.
  • Delivering patient education and instructions.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Compensation
