We are looking for a knowledgeable and proactive Specialty Pharmacy Technician to join our 340B specialty pharmacy team. In this role, you will be instrumental in managing the unique needs of patients enrolled in our specialty pharmacy Patient Management Program, ensuring they receive their medications accurately and efficiently. You will collaborate with pharmacists, healthcare providers, and patients to provide exceptional care and support.
Medication Coordination
Accurately prepare specialty medications in compliance with federal and state regulations, focusing on the 340B program requirements and URAC and ACHC standard.
Receive prescriptions from patients and take specified medical histories.
Assist in benefit review for patients and their specialty prescriptions.
Assist in Prior Authorization process and review Patient Assistance Programs.
Schedule medication shipments for specialty prescriptions.
Patient Support
Serve as one of the primary points of contact for patients, addressing questions about medication refills, and adherence, while providing empathetic support.
Answer telephones and provide service excellence to patients and other partners, utilizing the AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank) framework to ensure all interactions are patient-centered and contribute to a positive patient experience.
Provide non-drug information to patients and clinicians and answer appropriate questions.
Provide monthly refill phone calls to patients enrolled within the patient management program.
Prescription Processing
Review prescription information, process orders, and assist with the 340B billing and claims processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Check prescriptions for completeness of information.
Verify patient information.
Be able to complete prior authorizations for patients in a timely manner.
Troubleshoot and resolve billing rejections and subsequently rebill claims to appropriate carriers for commercial, federal, and state insurance plans.
Inventory Control
Maintain inventory of specialty medications, including tracking stock levels and managing ordering to support 340B program needs.
Documentation
Ensure proper documentation of all patient interactions, medication dispensing, and inventory management in accordance with regulatory standards and pharmacy policies.
Collaboration
Work closely with specialty pharmacists, healthcare providers, and other healthcare team members to optimize patient care and resolve any medication-related issues.
Assist Specialty Pharmacy Pharmacist with expansion and quality improvement initiatives..
Compliance and Quality Assurance
Ensure compliance with 340B program guidelines and internal pharmacy policies, conduct regular audits and participate in quality assurance activities.
Ensure compliance with URAC and ACHC standards.
Patient Education
Provide communication to patients regarding their eligibility, timeline for medication refills, and access to medications, ensuring they understand their benefits.

QualificationsSpecialty Pharmacy Care Coordinator (Specialty Pharmacy Technician – Tech I)
REPORTS TO: Associate Director of Specialty Pharmacy
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or equivalent and Texas State Board of Pharmacy – Pharmacy Technician certification. Basic Life Support Training (BLS). Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred but not required. Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred but not required.
SKILLS: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and patient service skills. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of pharmaceutical and related medical terminology. Knowledge of pharmacy operations and safety standards. Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate. Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment. Fluent in Spanish is strongly preferred.
