Own the Android platform foundation, focusing on stability, scalability, and architectural standards. Manage CI/CD pipelines and develop shared modules to enable feature teams across the Volkswagen app.
Requires 8+ years of Android development experience with expert-level Kotlin and Jetpack Compose skills. Must be based in Romania with fluency in English and a strong ability to drive architectural decisions.
This is not a typical Android dev role. About 60% of your work is enabler work, fixing CI/CD pipelines, driving Android version migrations, refactoring code, defining architecture standards. The remaining 30% is feature work.
We are looking for someone who brings strong technical opinions and is not afraid to voice them.
Platform & Architecture
Own the Android platform foundation | stability, scalability, and modernization across all teams.
Define and drive architectural direction (MVVM, modularization); guide feature teams in making the right calls.
React first when Google ships major platform or SDK changes and define adoption rules for the rest.
Evaluate and integrate large third-party libraries
CI/CD & Automation
Design, maintain, and optimize pipelines using GitHub Actions and related tooling - ensuring every build is stable, every test runs, and every release is smooth.
Ensure code from all feature teams reaches the Play Store correctly and reliably.
Shared Tooling
Develop shared modules and libraries used across all feature teams.
Collaborate with iOS counterparts to align cross-platform decisions
UI & Architecture
Jetpack Compose - declarative UI, theming per brand, component reuse cross-brand
MVVM (primary) and MVI for state-intensive screens
Jetpack: ViewModel, Navigation, StateFlow, DataStore
Build & CI/CD
Multi-module Gradle
Kotlin DSL, version catalogs, build caching, configuration cache, dependency constraints
GitHub Actions for CI/CD pipelines
8+ years of experience with Android mobile application development.
Expert-level Kotlin - Coroutines & Flow
Hands-on experience with Jetpack Compose.
Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines - setup, maintenance, and optimization.
Comfortable making, defending, and challenging architectural decisions at scale.
Strong understanding of MVVM & MVI architecture patterns.
Based in Romania (citizen or long-term resident).
Fluent English - written and spoken.
You challenge decisions, offering with arguments and alternatives.
You're comfortable with shifting priorities.
You are a systems thinker - you consider the broader impact of a decision before acting on it.
Comfortable with ambiguity - platform-level problems rarely come with a clear playbook.
Willingness to travel several times per year for on-site workshops and PI Planning sessions in Germany (Berlin)
Startup culture: Small (~35 people), international, and highly collaborative team.
Full flexibility: Work remotely from anywhere in Romania. Core hours 11:00–16:00 (EET). Office available in Bucharest (Unirii area)
Travel: Quarterly PI Planning sessions in Germany (2–3 days)
