Full job description

Founded in 1990, Utility Solutions is a designer and manufacturer of hot-line tools and products for the electrical power industry. Our success is based on working as a team to deliver high-quality products and unsurpassed customer service. We believe that each team member contributes directly to our growth and success as a company. Come grow with us!

We are seeking a Production Scheduler to join our team in Hickory, NC!

Job Summary:

The Production Scheduler is responsible for creating, maintaining, and updating production schedules while supporting the company’s shop floor control system and ERP-related manufacturing processes. This role works closely with Operations, Production, Inventory Control, Engineering, Purchasing, Accounting, and Information Technology to ensure work orders, routings, material availability, and production priorities are accurate and current.

This is a hands-on scheduling and systems-support role. The ideal candidate is an organized, technically capable manufacturing scheduler who is comfortable using ERP systems, shop floor software, reports, spreadsheets, and production data to keep manufacturing activity moving efficiently.

Responsibilities:

  • The Scheduler creates and maintains production schedules based on customer orders, material availability, production capacity, and operational priorities.

  • Responsibilities include releasing and updating work orders, monitoring production status, helping maintain accurate routings and work center information, and ensuring schedules reflect real-time shop floor conditions.

  • The Scheduler works directly with supervisors, leads, planners, inventory personnel, and operators to confirm job status, resolve scheduling conflicts, and support daily production flow.

  • This position assists with the company’s internally developed shop floor control system built upon xTuple ERP, including helping maintain accurate work orders, production transactions, inventory movements, and manufacturing data.

  • The Scheduler supports system adoption by helping users understand scheduling tools, production reports, work order status, and shop floor system requirements.

  • The position may assist with testing system updates, identifying data issues, creating or reviewing reports, documenting procedures, and communicating software or process issues to IT or system developers.

  • The Scheduler is expected to be detail-oriented, responsive to changing production needs, and capable of using technology to improve schedule accuracy, production visibility, and operational coordination.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Successful candidates may come from backgrounds including production scheduling, production planning, inventory control, manufacturing administration, ERP support, shop floor coordination, or production supervision.

  • The ideal individual is highly organized, detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working directly with both shop floor personnel and computer systems.

  • They must be able to communicate clearly with operators, supervisors, managers, engineers, purchasing, accounting, and IT personnel.

  • Strong spreadsheet skills, ERP experience, comfort with reports and data, and the ability to learn manufacturing software systems are important.

  • This individual should be capable of identifying schedule conflicts, data inaccuracies, missing transactions, material issues, and process problems that affect production flow.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Candidates should possess manufacturing experience with a strong understanding of production operations, work orders, inventory control, scheduling, and manufacturing processes.

  • A demonstrated aptitude for computer systems, strong organizational skills, and the ability to communicate across departments are required.

  • Experience with ERP systems, shop floor control systems, production planning, SQL reporting, Excel, xTuple, Lean Manufacturing, or manufacturing data analysis is preferred.

  • A college degree is not required. Practical manufacturing experience, scheduling ability, computer aptitude, and demonstrated reliability are valued more highly than formal education.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and move throughout a manufacturing facility for extended periods.

  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 30 pounds.

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, noise, dust, etc.

This role works in-office Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm.

Salary Range: $50,000-60,000 annually.
