The Assistant Director of Student Engagement & Belonging serves as the University’s lead recognizing agent and advisor for more than 200 recognized student organizations, and provides critical leadership for student organization policy, compliance, leadership education, and campus-wide programming. This position supervises the Coordinator of Student Organizations and the Coordinator of Programming & Leadership, manages major student organization processes, and supports programs such as University Day, Lead UNH, the Student Leadership Awards, senior programming, CAB, SCOPE, and other student organization activities. The role is central to the Student Life mission of building community, belonging, student development, and engagement, and ensures that student leaders have the training, advising, risk management support, and operational infrastructure needed to run safe and successful programs.

Duties/Responsibilities

Supervise professional personnel within Student Engagement & Belonging (30%):

• Hire and coach the Coordinator of Student Organizations and the Coordinator of Programming & Leadership.

• Evaluate the performance of the coordinator positions on an annual basis.

• Support the annual re-evaluation of role responsibilities of the coordinator positions.

• Assist with supervision of student staff when necessary.

Advise approximately 200 recognized student organizations (40%):

• Serve as the University’s primary student organization recognizing agent, including oversight of University-wide policies, procedures, and compliance.

• Create and manage Student Organization Policies as well as various resources to support organizations.

• Serve as the chief investigator for student organization conduct both internally and in junction with the Office of Community Standards.

• Manage the new organization recognition process, including but not limited to inquiries, governing document review, training, and risk management assessment.

• Design and implement trainings for student organizations, including Hazing Prevention and Finance 101.

• Create and oversee the annual Student Organization Report, which serves as both a yearly assessment tool and to track active student organizations.

• Tracking of organizational compliance for student organization trainings including Finance 101 and Hazing Prevention

• Advise the UNH Campus Activities Board (CAB), including but not limited to coaching through the event planning process, connecting students with internal and external resources, and providing staffing support during programs.

• Advise the Student Committee on Popular Entertainment (SCOPE) on concert production, fiscal and organizational management, and broader event planning.

• Advise Mask and Dagger, UNH’s theater production student organization on organizational management.

• Advise Reading the Rainbow, UNH’s student organization focused on reading books from a diverse range of authors.

• Advise and counsel student leaders on a variety of topics such as program planning, organizational development, leadership, conflict mediation, etc.

Assist in the facilitation of student body programming (20%):

• In collaboration with the Coordinator of Programming & Leadership, create and facilitate the curriculum for Lead UNH, a four-day leadership institute for about 45 students and 10 staff.

• In collaboration with the Coordinator of Programming & Leadership and the Coordinator of Student Organizations, plan and execute University Day.

• In collaboration with the Coordinator of Student Organizations, plan and execute the Spring Student Organization Fair.

• In collaboration with campus partners, plan and execute senior programming for graduating students.

• Oversee the planning and implementation of the Student Leadership Awards ceremony.

• Provide leadership development services for student groups, campus departments, academic classes, and student staff on campus.

Additional administrative duties (10%):

• Manage and allocate the Student Engagement & Belonging Budget.

• Manage cash box/donation box distribution and safe management for student organization deposits.

• Provide guidance in the development of short- and long-range strategic planning for Student Engagement & Belonging.

• Gather and analyze data for reporting and recommendations on programming and leadership offerings.

• Maximize use of resources including funding, personnel, facilities, and time.

• Collaborate with marketing staff on marketing efforts.

• Serve on university-wide committees as appropriate.

• Participate in professional development opportunities to stay informed on best practices in the field.

• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

• Master's degree and 3 years of experience.

• Experience in development and presentation of workshops, classes, and training.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge and experience with student activities and leadership programming.

• Knowledge of student and leadership development theories and practices and an understanding of the role of the student union and its programs.

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations and a sustained commitment to supporting inclusion and equity.

• Supervision of employees.

• Ability to work on a flexible basis when activities fall outside of normal working times, including nights and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong interpersonal, managerial, budgetary, organizational, and communication skills.

• Experience maintaining and managing student engagement software.

• Demonstrated capacity for independent judgment, planning, evaluation, and decision making.

• Knowledge of student development practices and an understanding of the role of the student union and its programs.

• Experience in Higher Education or Student Union management.

Compensation Pay Range:

$50,210.00 - $89,440.00
