Job description
Safe, habitable, and affordable housing is a basic need. The Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle (ULMS) Housing Department provides direct service programs and resources to individuals and families through shelters, transitional housing, rental assistance, and home ownership programs. ULMS Housing Department is actively seeking Shelter Coordinators for our new Young Adult Shelter that will open September 1, 2026. These positions will be required to train at our permanent supportive housing sites and may work with our Homeless Outreach team as well as assist with the setup and launch of our new YoungAdult Shelter site.

The Shelter Coordinator works as part of a small team providing support and assistance to young adults 18-24 years of age experiencing homelessness. This position will serve as the primary staff presence at Young Adult Shelter, and coordinate with other shelter staff as well as the Shelter Supervisor to maintain operations throughout the week. In addition, Shelter Coordinators may provide relief and support coverage as needed for other housing programs such as severe weather emergency shelters or our permanent supportive housing programs.

Shelter Coordinator - Shifts are 12 hours - 8 am - 8 pm or 8 pm - 8 am. Must be available to work weekends

** Theses positions are targeted to start July 16, 2026 and will assist with the setup and opening of our new Young Adult Shelter **

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • HS Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Human Service or related field is preferred
  • 1+ years of case management experience preferred
  • Ability to read and write in standard English
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Ability to prepare communications, such as memos, emails, reports, and other correspondence
  • Prior experience working with young adults between the ages of 18-24 in a service capacity is strongly desired
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office - Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and set priorities
  • Ability to interact with a wide variety of audiences
  • Demonstrates cultural competency and sensitivity to the needs of adults with multiple challenges
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make decisions based upon the analysis of individual unique factors
  • Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality
  • Experience in working with ethnic/minorities
  • Non-profit experience strongly preferred
  • Must be able/willing to obtain food handlers card within the first 2 weeks of employment
ULMS Total Compensation

** Most Benefits will take effect on the 1st of the month following a 60-day waiting period
  • Medical - $8,741.40 per year

Workers Compensation Coverage - $395.20 - $3,591.33 per year (depending on class code)
