About This Opportunity 

The School of Social Science is seeking an outstanding and enthusiastic archaeologist to join its thriving academic community as a Lecturer in Archaeology. This continuing position offers an exciting opportunity for a researcher with expertise in lithic analysis and an active field-based research program to contribute to one of Australia's longest-running and most respected integrated archaeology teaching and research programs.

As part of a collaborative and research-intensive environment, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality teaching across our Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science programs, inspiring students through innovative and engaging learning experiences. You will have the opportunity to build and expand your research profile, contribute to the supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, and develop a nationally recognised program of scholarship within your area of expertise.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

• Teaching: Develop and deliver courses, engage in curriculum design, coordinate courses, assess students, provide academic counselling, and adhere to university teaching rules.

• Research: Establish a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilize best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.

• Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.

• Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You 

Applicants should possess a PhD in Archaeology. Additionally, you will demonstrate:

• Expertise in lithic technological analysis.

• An active program of field-based archaeological research in a geographical region that complements existing staff interests.

• Expertise in applied digital skills (e.g. spatial analysis) and/or quantitative methods in archaeology.

• Knowledge and the ability to teach an area of archaeology complementary to existing staff expertise, such as geoarchaeology or forensic archaeology.

• Familiarity with the ethics and practice of Indigenous cultural heritage and Indigenous engagement.

• A developing research program evidenced by publications, conference presentations, and success in obtaining external funding.

• Evidence of high quality teaching across all levels, including course coordination, curriculum design and program innovation

• A demonstrated commitment to collegial service in the university and active engagement with the broader professional community.
