Job Description
The Associate Director, Immersion Program Manager Role
The Associate Director of Experiential and Global Learning (Immersion Program Manager) in the Mendoza College of Business is a member of the Office of Experiential and Global Learning (EAGL). This role serves as a programmatic lead charged with developing, delivering, and continuously improving career-relevant, transformative learning opportunities for emerging business leaders.
The Associate Director reports to the Director of Experiential and Global Learning and works alongside a second Immersion Program Manager and the Associate Director for Project Design and Client Strategy. By strategically leveraging specialized college service-provider units (such as the Events Team and the College Finance Office), the Associate Director focuses on student-facing program design and excellent on-the-ground immersion delivery.
To succeed in this role, the candidate must be exceptionally organized while also adaptable in navigating fluid, evolving environments. This position requires a seasoned frontline staff leader possessing significant program management experience and a proven track record of working directly with highly articulate, high-expectation student populations, with a strong preference for graduate or upperclass undergraduate-level cohorts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Immersion Program Planning and Execution (70%)
Portfolio Execution: Lead the planning and execution of weeklong, project-based courses across graduate programs, including:
Two-Year MBA (First-Year Consulting projects, Second-Year Immersions)
Onsite Leadership & Safety: Serve as the onsite institutional lead during domestic and international travel. Manage cohort dynamics, mentor students, interface with business leaders/faculty, and handle crisis, safety, and travel protocols under pressure.
Exploration and Development of New Programming (10%)
Innovation & Pilot Design: Explore, pilot, and establish emerging initiatives (e.g., case competitions) as market and demographic needs evolve.
Agile Implementation: Build operational structures, timelines, and communication plans for new projects, pivoting logistically as college priorities shift.
Program Assessment, Impact Reporting, and Marketing (10%)
Assessment & Reporting: Administer evaluation tools to measure learning outcomes, then compile impact and assessment reports for stakeholders and accreditation needs.
Program Marketing: Partner on marketing campaigns, info sessions, and promotional materials to highlight course value to prospective and current students.
Service to the Team, College, and University (10%)
Collaboration & Service: Partner with central campus units (career development, student life) to align programs, represent the team on college committees, and contribute to a supportive office culture.
Core Competencies & Experience:
Significant Program Management Experience: Demonstrated success in orchestrating logistically intense, multi-day experiential programs, academic global travel, or complex professional events.
Seasoned Frontline Leadership: A minimum of 5–7 years of professional experience, with a proven track record as a frontline staff leader working directly with high-expectation student populations, with a strong preference for graduate or upperclass undergraduate-level cohorts.
Exemplary Organization & Structural Flexibility: Exceptionally organized, structured, and detail-oriented, paired with the deep adaptability and growth mindset needed to navigate fluid, ambiguous, and rapidly evolving program pilots.
Academic Operationalization: Ability to translate academic course outlines and faculty learning objectives into high-quality operational plans, tracking student progress, and delivering professional student communications.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Exceptional relationship-building skills to act as a bridge between faculty, corporate/alumni stakeholders, and centralized business units.
Ethical Judgment & Crisis Resolution: Poise, resilience, and exceptional professional judgment under pressure. Proven ability to manage student crises, medical emergencies, and real-time logistical challenges during travel while maintaining excellent stakeholder communication.
Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with MS Office, Google Apps, Qualtrics, and Canvas.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
The person in this position occasionally moves through the building to attend meetings/events and access files or information.
Will occasionally require work during early mornings, nights, and/or weekends, as well as seasonal travel multiple times a year to accompany students on immersions.
The person in this position is eligible to participate in Mendoza’s Flexible Work location program.
The statements included in this description are intended to reflect the general nature and level of work assigned to this classification and should not be interpreted as all-inclusive.
