Status: Exempt, Full-Time
Salary: $57,784.22

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the expected salary for this position is $57,784.22 annually. How You'll Help
For many Colorado families, their tax refund represents the largest single payment they receive each year. Tax Help Colorado helps low- and moderate-income Coloradans to file accurate tax returns and claim eligible deductions and credits that can support financial stability and long-term economic mobility.
The Senior Coordinator, Volunteer Engagement & Training leads the coordination and continuous improvement of volunteer engagement, training, and communication systems for Tax Help Colorado statewide. This position is responsible for designing and facilitating volunteer learning experiences, supporting recruitment and retention efforts, and managing volunteer communication strategies. The role also supports the onboarding and cultivation of corporate volunteer opportunities and partnerships to expand community engagement and volunteer participation. Additionally, this position supports volunteer data tracking and engagement management through Salesforce and related platforms.
This role serves as a key operational partner in strengthening volunteer readiness, enhancing volunteer experience, and supporting year-round engagement strategies that sustain and grow the Tax Help Colorado volunteer network.
Essential Responsibilities
Volunteer Training & Development
- Achieve Advanced IRS tax law certification annually.
- Lead the design, development, coordination, and facilitation of volunteer training programs for Tax Help Colorado.
- Create and maintain training materials, facilitator guides, operational resources, and volunteer support documentation.
- Facilitate in-person and virtual volunteer training throughout the year, including fall and winter tax training programs.
- Manage and support learning pathways within the program's Learning Management System (LMS), including course assignments, user support, tracking, and reporting.
- Evaluate training effectiveness and recommend improvements to strengthen volunteer readiness, retention, and engagement.
- Support onboarding and ongoing development opportunities for volunteers, site coordinators, and partner organizations.
Volunteer Engagement & Communications
- Develop and maintain volunteer communication systems to ensure consistent, high-touch engagement throughout the volunteer lifecycle.
- Create and distribute volunteer newsletters, announcements, updates, and engagement communications.
- Support social media and outreach efforts related to volunteer recruitment, training, recognition, and storytelling.
- Plan and coordinate volunteer appreciation and recognition efforts and annual kickoff event.
- Conduct volunteer surveys and engagement evaluations to assess volunteer experience and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Build strong relationships with volunteers, students, educational institutions, and community partners.
Volunteer Recruitment, Corporate Engagement & Management
- Support statewide volunteer recruitment efforts through partnerships with colleges, universities, companies, and community organizations.
- Support the onboarding, cultivation, and engagement of corporate volunteer partnerships and opportunities.
- Coordinate communication and engagement strategies for corporate volunteer groups and community partners.
- Track volunteer recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and retention metrics using Salesforce and other volunteer management platforms.
- Maintain accurate volunteer records, participation tracking, and reporting systems.
- Support operational coordination related to volunteer placement, scheduling, and site readiness.
- Assist in developing strategies to expand and diversify the volunteer pipeline.
Program Operations & Support
- Support Tax Help Colorado staff in implementing program operations and maintaining high-quality volunteer-supported tax sites.
- Serve as a site coordinator at various drop-off, DIY, traditional, and virtual tax sites during tax season.
- Provide customer service support to volunteers, partners, and taxpayers during and outside of tax season.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of tax site operational materials and volunteer resources.
- Visit tax sites to evaluate volunteer experience and operational effectiveness.
- Prepare reports and dashboards to support program planning, evaluation, and future projections.
- Ensure high-touch communication with volunteers, community partners, and program stakeholders.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support cross-departmental initiatives and organizational engagement opportunities.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts related to volunteer systems, communications, and operational processes.
- Stay current on best practices in volunteer engagement, adult learning, training facilitation, and community-centered service delivery.
- Represent Tax Help Colorado at community meetings, training, volunteer events, and partner engagements.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need: Education, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in volunteer engagement, training coordination, adult learning, program operations, or related nonprofit work.
- Experience designing and facilitating training programs or curriculum required.
- Experience working within a Learning Management System (LMS) strongly preferred.
- Experience managing volunteer communications and engagement strategies preferred.
- Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM/database systems preferred.
- Experience supporting corporate volunteer engagement or community partnerships preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
- Previous experience with tax preparation or VITA programs preferred.
Specials Skills/Knowledge:
- Strong facilitation, presentation, and training development skills.
- Excellent project management and organizational abilities with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and engage diverse groups of volunteers and community partners.

- Experience analyzing volunteer data, engagement trends, and program metrics preferred.

Computer Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Experience with Salesforce, volunteer management systems, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and tax software preferred.
- Familiarity with digital communication platforms, email marketing tools, and social media platforms preferred.
Working Environment: Approximately 40% office-based and 60% community-based work including travel to local meetings, trainings, outreach events, and tax sites depending on seasonal needs.
Physical Activities: May be required to lift up to 20lbs. Ability to provide personal transportation required.
