Since acquiring a licensed microfinance bank in Kenya in 2023, we have grown revenue more than sixfold and built a stack of products spanning Lending, Savings, Fixed Deposits, FX, and (in development) Trade Finance, for both individuals and SMEs.
Job Summary The Credit Risk Analyst will be responsible for supporting the credit underwriting function by assessing the creditworthiness of prospective and existing borrowers, analyzing financial and non-financial information, evaluating credit risk exposure, and making recommendations to facilitate informed lending decisions. The role ensures that all credit assessments are conducted in accordance with the institution's credit policies, risk appetite, regulatory requirements, and underwriting standards while maintaining portfolio quality and minimizing credit losses. The Credit Risk Analyst will also monitor emerging risks, contribute to portfolio reviews, and support continuous improvement of credit risk management practices.
Key Responsibilities 1. Verification of Personal and Business Information:
Verify the accuracy and completeness of client-provided personal and business details.
Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
2. Credit Analysis:
Analyze financial data to assess clients' creditworthiness.
Pull and review credit reports to evaluate credit risk.
3. NTSA Searches and In-Charges:
Conduct NTSA searches and review in-charges for due diligence.
4. Loan Application Assessment:
Evaluate loan applications and provide recommendations (approval, decline, or adjustment).
5. Valuation Process:
Issue valuation instructions for collateral appraisal (e.g., vehicles).
Receive and analyze valuation reports to determine loan amounts based on collateral value.
6. Document Management:
Safeguard and record original logbooks from branches.
Assist in the collection and processing of joint logbooks from NTSA.
7. Loan Document Handling:
Receive, verify, and securely file loan documents.
Process collateral release requests upon verification.
8. Insurance Verification:
Verify insurance coverage for clients and their collateral.
Process documentation for insurance accident claims when necessary.
9. Data Analysis & Interpretation:
Assess financial data, customer profiles, and transaction histories to determine creditworthiness.
Skills: SQL, Excel, Power BI, Pandas, NumPy.
10. Risk Modeling & Credit Scoring:
Develop statistical models to predict loan defaults and assess risk exposure.
Ensure adherence to financial regulations by generating accurate reports.
Skills: Data Governance, GDPR Compliance, Automated Reporting (Python, Power BI), Data Auditing Techniques.
15. Sentiment Analysis & Alternative Credit Scoring:
Leverage non-traditional data sources (e.g., social media, mobile transactions) for credit assessment.
Skills: NLP (Natural Language Processing), Web Scraping, Behavioral Analytics.
