As a Product Designer, you will work closely with an established engineering team to enhance existing products and drive new developments. This role will design and develop mechanical engineering designs, drawings, and specifications to build equipment dedicated to the rugged and challenging terrain of the forestry industry. To excel in this role, a combination of technical skills is required, including both problem solving and strong mechanical aptitude. Experience with fluid power systems, engine systems, electrical and electronic systems as well as drive train systems is required.

Dedicated Day Shift: 8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday – Friday
Job Duties
Create detailed designs, perform calculations, and develop prototypes for mechanical components, ensuring they meet performance, safety, and industry standards.
Analyze and select appropriate materials based on mechanical properties, cost, and manufacturing processes.
Collaborate and work closely with cross-functional teams including designers/engineers, manufacturing, and quality control to ensure seamless integration of designs into production.
Conduct tests such as stress analysis, fatigue testing, and vibration analysis to validate designs and optimize performance, strength, response to stress and other characteristics.
Create technical documentation, including design specifications and bills of materials.
Identify opportunities for design optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency improvements.
Occasionally participate in hands-on troubleshooting during the fabrication and/or assembly process.
When required provide field support for equipment troubleshooting and improvements.
Skills and Experience
Hands-on, creative, self-motivated, passionate person willing to take on diverse and challenging technical tasks
Solid understanding of engineering principles, material properties, manufacturing processes, and computer-aided design (CAD) software.
Design tasks require collaboration with coworkers; effective communication and reasoning skills are essential when working on projects that involve multiple team members.
Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events
Ability to create visually appealing and user-friendly products balancing aesthetics with practicality.
Staying updated on emerging technologies and continuous learning to innovate and improve existing solutions.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics preferred.
Previous design experience within similar industries to forestry such as mobile heavy-duty equipment used in construction, transportation, mining, oil and gas, material handling, landscaping, land clearing, and farming an asset.
Strong understanding of machine design fundamentals, mechanics, materials science, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.
Understanding of structural FEA and dynamic simulation of machine components.
Software experience including 3D modeling (SolidWorks) and FEA (Simulation).
Design experience in any of the following:
Welded steel fabrications for manual and robotic welding
Hydraulic cylinders and components, as well as control valve and plumbing details; implementing advanced hydraulic power and electronic control systems, sensors, and controllers.
Attachments to seamlessly integrate with heavy equipment including consideration for load distribution, stress analysis, material selection, and ease of installation.
