Full job description

Description

Backgroud check, US Citizenship, and drug screening are requirements of this position. Contingent on client approval of candidate.

TMMG is seeking an experienced Lofting Manager / Lofting Supervisor to support Eastern Shipbuilding Group's vessel construction programs. This leadership role is responsible for managing all lofting, nesting, template development, and production definition activities across multiple concurrent vessel construction projects.

The successful candidate will serve as both a technical leader and department manager, ensuring lofting deliverables are accurate, prioritized, and aligned with production schedules. This individual will lead a team of lofting coordinators, coordinate closely with Engineering, Structural Engineering, Production, and Material Processing, and act as the primary interface for lofting-related production support.

This is a high-visibility position supporting major commercial and government vessel construction programs and offers an opportunity to play a critical role in driving production efficiency, quality, and schedule performance.

Requirements

  • Lead and manage all lofting, nesting, template preparation, and production definition activities supporting vessel construction.
  • Supervise daily operations of the lofting department to ensure work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with production priorities.
  • Monitor parts lists and plate lists across multiple vessels and ensure work assignments are properly prioritized and distributed among lofting coordinators.
  • Coordinate with Material Processing to ensure nesting, burn schedules, and production requirements are aligned with fabrication needs.
  • Support and maintain nested part data and production outputs used by CNC cutting equipment, including Messer burn tables.
  • Establish quality control processes, review procedures, and verification checklists to ensure lofting outputs are complete, accurate, and production-ready.
  • Resolve drawing discrepancies, part location issues, design conflicts, and other lofting-related production challenges.
  • Coordinate closely with Engineering, Structural Engineering, Planning, and Production teams to support constructability, fabrication efficiency, and overall build strategy.
  • Serve as the primary interface for lofting software databases, nesting systems, and production support tools.
  • Interview, hire, train, mentor, and develop lofting personnel, including apprenticeship and workforce development initiatives.
  • Manage department workload, staffing requirements, performance metrics, and resource allocation.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, digital shipbuilding, and process standardization.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, safety requirements, quality standards, and production objectives.
  • Support production planning meetings and provide leadership regarding schedule risks, manpower needs, and department priorities.

Physical Job Requirements

The Lofting Manager / Lofting Supervisor must be able to work effectively in both office and shipyard production environments, including regular interaction with fabrication shops, waterfront operations, assembly areas, and active vessel construction sites. The position requires the ability to access vessels under construction, conduct production walkdowns, attend shipboard meetings, and support fabrication activities as required.

Education/Certification Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of shipbuilding experience in lofting, production definition, or related production support disciplines.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience leading lofting, production engineering, or manufacturing support teams.
  • Strong knowledge of ship construction methods, fabrication sequencing, and production workflows.
  • Experience with:

o Nesting systems

o Burn files and CNC cutting operations

o Plate and profile development

o Steel fabrication support

o Production definition and manufacturing documentation

  • Ability to interpret complex production drawings, structural arrangements, and 3D shipbuilding models.
  • Experience coordinating across Engineering, Production, Planning, Structural Engineering, and Fabrication organizations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, delegation, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a schedule-driven shipyard environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting large commercial, ferry, Navy, Coast Guard, or government vessel construction programs.
  • Experience with shipbuilding software including:

o ShipConstructor

o Aveva Marine

o Nupas-Cadmatic

o Tribon

o AutoCAD

o Siemens NX

  • Familiarity with ABS, USCG, and applicable shipbuilding standards.
  • Experience supporting modular construction, unit assembly, and production planning processes.
  • Prior experience managing lofting teams supporting multiple vessel programs simultaneously.
