About State Sport Centres:

The Victorian State Sport Centres Trust (SSCT) operates and maintains over $1 billion in assets including four of Australia’s largest multi-sport venues: the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC), the State Netball and Hockey Centre (SNHC), Lakeside Stadium (incorporating the State Athletics Centre), and Knox Regional Sports Park including the State Basketball Centre (SBC).

Unlike other major international venues, SSCT facilities provide access for everyone, from elite and professional athletes to school and community participants, 7 days a week, up to 16 hours a day.

Through this access-for-all approach, SSCT makes a unique and significant contribution to Victoria’s sport sector.

Four workplace values underpin everything we do: Teamwork, Safety, Excellence & Respect.

About the role: Lifeguard

As a Lifeguard, your primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of all patrons across our aquatic facilities. You will provide a high standard of supervision, proactively prevent incidents, and respond effectively to emergencies when required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing vigilant and proactive supervision of aquatic areas to ensure safe use by all patrons
  • Anticipating risks and responding quickly to incidents, including performing rescues and emergency procedures
  • Delivering first aid and emergency care when required
  • Enforcing facility rules and conditions of entry to maintain a safe environment
  • Educating patrons on water safety practices and promoting safe behaviours
  • Supporting recognised safety programs such as Watch Around Water and Swim Safe
  • Completing operational duties such as equipment setup, cleaning, and event support (outside of active supervision)
  • Maintaining accurate incident reports and adhering to aquatic operations procedures
  • Delivering excellent customer service in a diverse and dynamic environment
  • Participating in ongoing training, including mandatory in-service sessions and skill development

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Experience in a customer service or service-based role
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain alert, professional, and calm under pressure
  • Commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement

Essential qualifications:

  • Current Pool Lifeguard qualification (SISSS00111)
  • Provide First Aid certificate
  • Current CPR certification
  • Valid Working with Children Check (Employee)
  • Australian working rights

Shortlisted candidates may be subject to pre-employment screenings, including criminal record, social media, and adverse media checks.
