St. Augustine Youth Services (SAYS) is seeking dependable, compassionate, and observant individuals to join our residential team as an Awake Overnight Youth Care Specialist. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of youth receiving residential behavioral health services.
This is more than an overnight monitoring position—you'll provide supervision, guidance, crisis intervention, and support while helping create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where young people can heal and thrive.
What You'll Do
Maintain an awake presence throughout the entire overnight shift.
Monitor residential cottages and conduct scheduled safety and room checks.
Ensure the safety, security, and well-being of all youth.
Provide direct supervision, behavioral management, and positive guidance.
Serve as a positive role model and mentor for youth in care.
Respond calmly and effectively during behavioral or medical emergencies.
Notify supervisors, house parents, on-call staff, or emergency responders when necessary.
Wake youth according to individualized treatment plans when required.
Complete accurate shift documentation, logs, and incident reports.
Communicate important information during shift change.
Perform light housekeeping, laundry, and other overnight duties.
Monitor facility conditions and report maintenance or safety concerns.
Assist youth with hygiene needs and distribute approved personal care items, clothing, and linens.
Follow each child's treatment plan and agency policies to provide consistent structure and discipline.
Attend required staff meetings and complete all required training.
QualificationsQualifications
Applicants must possess
High school diploma or GED (required).
A valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
A history free of offenses that would prohibit signing the Affidavit of Good Moral Character.
The ability to successfully pass all required criminal background screenings, drug screening, and pre-employment requirements.
The ability to remain awake, alert, and attentive throughout the entire overnight shift.
Strong communication, observation, and documentation skills.
The ability to remain calm, exercise sound judgment, and respond effectively during crisis situations.

The ability to provide consistent structure, supervision, and appropriate behavioral guidance in accordance with agency policies and each child's individualized treatment plan.
