We’re looking for a mid-weight designer who covers the full spectrum: user research, UX strategy, interaction design, UI execution, and design systems. Someone who’s genuinely comfortable running a discovery phase alone, facilitating a stakeholder workshop, and delivering production-ready UI with a coherent component structure — all on the same account.
About the role
Significa is a design-led agency working with some of the most demanding clients in banking, insurance, energy, travel, enterprise and beyond. We’re a lean but senior-heavy team — which means the work is yours to own, not yours to assist on.
You can own a project end-to-end, from discovery through delivery. You conduct research yourself, think in systems, and ship work that holds up under scrutiny.
You’ll be embedded on a complex, long-running client engagement in the financial sector where accessibility, compliance constraints, and stakeholder alignment are daily realities. You’ll need to earn trust independently, make defensible design decisions, and know when to escalate versus when to move.
What you will do
- Run your own research: Plan and conduct user interviews, contextual enquiry, usability testing, and stakeholder workshops and synthesise findings into actionable insights.
- Own the UX end-to-end by defining problem spaces, user journeys, information architecture, and interaction models from early discovery through validated concepts.
- Deliver production-quality UI. Translate UX thinking into polished, pixel-considerate interfaces. Design with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA as a floor, not a ceiling) and responsiveness baked-in from the start.
- Operate and contribute to design systems. Work fluidly in component-based environments. Identify gaps, propose extensions, and document decisions so your work doesn’t require a debrief.
- Communicate design rationale clearly. Present to clients and internal stakeholders with confidence. You’ll be in the room representing the design discipline, not reading off a script.
- Navigate complex client environments and clients with compliance requirements, legacy constraints, and internal politics. You’ll need situational awareness and the maturity to manage it professionally.
- Collaborate across disciplines by working closely with developers, business analysts, and project managers. Understand implementation constraints and push back intelligently where design integrity is at stake.
What we are looking for
- 3–5 years of professional UX/UI design experience across digital products and services, ideally with some exposure to complex regulated environments (banking, insurance, health, enterprise).
- Genuine research capability. You’ve planned and run research independently.
- Strong systems thinking. By looking at an interface you and immediately identify inconsistencies, reuse opportunities, and scalability problems.
- Mastery of Figma including auto-layout, shared libraries, variables & tokenisation, component properties, and prototyping. We don’t need to teach you the tool.
- A portfolio that demonstrates process, not just outcomes. We want to see how you think by sharing messy research synthesis, annotated wireframes, system documentation.
- Clear written and verbal communication. You write good design notes. You can explain a decision in one sentence. You don’t hide behind jargon.
- Self-direction and accountability by managing your own workload, flagging risks early, and reporting for updates.
Nice to have
- Experience with financial services or enterprise UX — you’ve dealt with audit trails, compliance reviews, and multi-stakeholder sign-off processes before.
- Motion design or micro-interaction specification skills.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted UX workflows and tools.
- Basic front-end awareness — you don’t need to code, but you should understand what you’re handing off and why certain decisions matter to developers.
- Experience contributing to design system governance.
How we work
We’re a small team where everyone pulls weight. There’s no buffer layer of project management between you and the client. Decisions get made quickly, work gets reviewed honestly, and good ideas win regardless of title. We take design seriously — both the craft and the impact — and we expect the same from the people we bring in.
We use Figma, Notion, and Slack. We prototype early. We run lean documentation. We don’t produce deliverables for the sake of deliverables. AI tooling is embedded in our workflow, and we expect you to be curious about it, not resistant to it.
