Job DetailsJob Location: Rockhurst University - Kansas City, MO 64110Rockhurst is currently seeking applications for the College of Business and Technology Academic Advisor position. The Academic Advisor is responsible for assisting in advising our undergraduate students in our College of Business and Technology (CB&T). Advising is a professional relationship marked by a series of purposeful interactions guided by theory and pedagogy, rooted in student learning outcomes. This position will work collaboratively with Academic Affairs, Student Success and Retention, and Student Life to ensure the highest quality of services are provided to all students, with particular attention to those in our degree program in CB&T. This is in line with our core value, Cura Personalis (“care of the whole person”). In addition, the Academic Advisor will lead the charge to increase the visibility, sensitivity, and inclusivity of students within their college and with the Rockhurst community. This position reports to the Senior Director of Student Success and is a 12-month position.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

Meet with students who are interested in pursuing courses of study in our CB&T to provide information and guidance on academic-related issues, such as graduation requirements and exceptions, major exploration, course planning and registration, transfer credit evaluation/substitution, and graduate program preparation.
Maintain students’ academic files, including a record of the advising activity that takes place each visit.
Facilitate students’ academic progress by evaluating their needs and developing appropriate educational plans. Makes referrals for students who need assistance with overcoming learning obstacles, specialized tutoring, extended or intensive assistance with career decisions, or similar needs.
Coordinates and participates in the advising-related portion of new/transfer students and family SOAR (Summer Orientation, Advising, and Registration) and orientation sessions.
Identify and collaborate with external entities for services, assistance, or information helpful to students including healthcare providers, social services agencies, grant institutions, etc.
Serve as a member of the Student Success Network, providing outreach and support to designated students.
Assist faculty with students of concern.
Some travel, evenings, and weekends may be required.

Position Requirements

1+ years of experience in higher education. Demonstrated experience in case managing, advising, or student success efforts.
A bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, counseling, or a closely related field is preferred.
Knowledge of technology, especially accessibility tools and online student success software.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Able to establish and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and staff, to work as a valuable team player, and to function independently while managing and prioritizing multiple job assignments.
Ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of individuals.
Effective project management skills; detail and deadline oriented.

Preferred Requirements

A master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, social work, psychology, counseling, or a closely related field is preferred.
Experience with assessment.
Experience designing inclusive programming that responds to a diverse student population.
