Full job description

  • Equal-time 0.5 FTE FIFO opportunity supporting the Port Hedland base
  • Deliver critical aeromedical retrieval and telehealth support across remote Western Australia
  • Competitive salary plus applicable allowances and benefits
  • No aeromedical experience required, with a comprehensive three-week orientation program provided

About the team
Want to experience retrieval medicine in Western Australia’s Pilbara region without relocating? The RFDS WA Medical team delivers critical care, aeromedical retrieval and telehealth services to communities across one of the largest and most remote health jurisdictions in the world.

Working from our Port Hedland base, you will support patients across remote communities, nursing posts, hospitals and retrieval settings, alongside RFDS doctors, nurses, pilots, coordination centre teams, regional hospitals, remote clinics and community health partners.

About the role

  • Provide emergency medical advice, telehealth support and clinical coordination for patients, clinicians and remote sites
  • Undertake aeromedical retrieval flights as part of a medical retrieval team, supporting critically ill and injured patients across WA
  • Participate in continuing medical education, clinical governance and quality improvement activities

About you

  • Registered, or eligible for registration, with AHPRA as a Medical Practitioner
  • Minimum five years postgraduate experience, with broad clinical experience across acute critical care medicine, emergency medicine, anaesthetics, ICU, rural generalist practice, paediatrics or obstetrics
  • Confident independently managing critically ill and injured patients, including procedural skills relevant to critical care medicine
  • Strong communication, teamwork and clinical judgement in complex and remote environments
  • Understanding of First Nations culture and health, with aeromedical retrieval experience highly regarded but not essential

Benefits

  • Competitive Agreement-based remuneration, depending on classification and experience
  • Equal-time 0.5 FTE FIFO arrangement, with final roster pattern confirmed by operational requirements
  • Pro-rata professional development allowance and study leave provisions
  • Salary packaging options available, including up to $15,900 per annum for everyday expenses and up to $2,650 per annum for meals and entertainment
  • Travel and accommodation arrangements available in line with applicable RFDS WA arrangements
  • Comprehensive orientation and support to transition into aeromedical retrieval
  • Access to annual leave, TOIL and other Agreement-based employment conditions where applicable
