Full job description

At RES, we’re looking for purpose-driven individuals who are passionate about restoration and sustainability, and who want their work to make a lasting environmental impact. Our team members go above and beyond, bringing initiative, integrity, and a strong work ethic to every project. Collaboration is key—we thrive on teamwork, open communication, and diverse perspectives. In a field that constantly changes, we value those who are resilient, adaptable, and resourceful in the face of challenges. If you're intellectually curious, eager to learn, and ready to help restore ecosystems and protect natural resources, you’ll find your place here.

RES is looking for a Superintendent I to join our growing field operations team!

As Superintendent I, you will oversee field crews and help manage the successful delivery of environmental construction projects. In this role, you'll combine construction expertise with ecological awareness to drive safety, quality, and efficiency on site. Working closely with Project Managers and other field leaders, you'll lead by example to ensure every job meets RES standards—and that every team member gets home safely.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone with strong field experience, excellent communication skills, and a solid understanding of both construction processes and restoration best practices.

Experience in full site construction of stream restoration, stormwater infrastructure, and heavy civil construction projects is required.

This position requires weekly travel throughout the Southeast, with overnight stays typically occurring Monday through Friday based on project location.

Why You Will Love This Job

  • You'll be part of a mission-driven company restoring natural ecosystems across diverse landscapes.
  • You'll lead projects that directly support water quality, biodiversity, and climate resilience.
  • You'll work with a supportive team that prioritizes safety, integrity, accountability, and excellence.
  • You'll gain exposure to innovative ecological restoration practices and cross-functional collaboration.

A Day in the Life

Your day starts by leading a tailgate safety meeting and reviewing the day's goals with your crew. On site, you’ll lead construction tasks, monitor equipment readiness, and ensure that work is progressing safely and according to plan. You’ll conduct site safety inspections, coach others on safe practices, and report incidents promptly to EHS&S and your supervisor.

You’ll use your knowledge of site plans, specifications, and ecological principles to guide daily operations and plans. You’ll proactively communicate with your Project Manager and the broader project team, assess site conditions, and manage tasks and personnel effectively on a single-site project.

Throughout the day, you’ll confirm that all equipment is maintained, fueled, and functioning, and you’ll play a key role in task execution, troubleshooting, and quality control. Safety leadership and strong field coordination are essential to your success in this role.

We Would Like to Talk to You If You Have Many of the Following:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of construction or ecological field experience
  • 3+ years of experience as a construction foreman or field crew lead
  • Valid driver's license and ability to maintain a Samsara driving score above 70
  • Experience reading and interpreting project plans, specifications, and layouts
  • Experience in stream restoration construction, including planting, excavation, and erosion control
  • Understanding of ecological restoration in a field setting

What Will Make You Stand Out

  • Demonstrated leadership of leading environmental and heavy civil construction projects.
  • Advanced understanding of equipment readiness and maintenance procedures.

You Will Thrive in This Job If

  • You are a hands-on leader who leads by example and values safety above all
  • You are organized, proactive, and adaptable to changing field conditions
  • You enjoy mentoring others and creating a positive team culture
  • You communicate clearly and frequently with cross-functional project teams
  • You take pride in quality work and want to contribute to something that makes a lasting environmental impact

California Pay Range
$72,000—$88,000 USD
