JOB SUMMARY: 
 
Under the direction of the Director, Information Technology and working as part of a team, the Systems Analyst supports the delivery of ongoing operations and evolution of the information technology infrastructure, systems, and services that support the Library’s customer service delivery and corporate operations. This includes planning, integration, problem analysis, system troubleshooting, and implementation of preventative and corrective maintenance, following established change management procedures. This position actively works to protect the integrity of RPL’s systems and security.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The responsibilities of the Systems Analyst may include any number of the following:
 
1.   Responsible for the administration of the library’s IT Infrastructure: 

  • Implement and deploy infrastructure (hardware or virtual) and software as required
  • Monitor and optimize performance of infrastructure
  • Administer services, servers, hardware and software
  • Create and perform backup procedures
  • Plan and perform disaster recovery procedures
  • Assist in the implementation and activation of web content, including administration of the library’s content management system
  • Writing scripts and using tools to support services and automate tasks
  • Administration of multiple databases of different types.

2. Maintain the security of the Library’s system infrastructure and workstations.

3. Document newly implemented systems and changes in existing systems to record configuration and settings. Train other IT Services staff on the Library’s systems as required.  

4.   Audit and maintain licensing for all software installed on library’s equipment and provisioned cloud services. 
 
5.   Plan, implement, and troubleshoot configuration of the hybrid cloud environment. 
 
6.   Liaise with other members of the IT Services team to ensure a sound technology environment for the library. 
 
7.   Assist with system planning and related budget preparation with the Director of Information Technology to ensure the quality of the network and related systems. 
 
8.   Advise the Director of Information Technology on operational and strategic issues. Assist in identifying and analyzing developments in information technology which affect RPL's IT systems and infrastructure.

9.   Address escalated service requests (2nd level of support) and provide backup for 1st level of support if needed. 

10. Provide second line assistance to support the public through public service staff. 

11. Perform related duties as assigned. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
 
1.   A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of a three-year accredited post-secondary program in Computer Science or Information Technology or Systems Administration. Certifications in IT industry standard accreditations, e.g. Microsoft, Unix/Linux accreditation. 
 
2.   A minimum of two years’ experience in planning, installing and maintaining complex IT infrastructure, systems, and services. 

3.   A minimum of a year of experience with deployment of servers and services in public or hybrid clouds (AWS, Azure).

4.   A minimum of a year of experience with administering Microsoft services (Azure Portal, Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, Security, Purview).
 
5.   Demonstrated knowledge of systems hardware, software, operating systems, standards, design, and maintenance. 
 
6.   Demonstrated knowledge of virtualisation technology (VMware, Hyper-V, others).

7.   Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft 365 Automation and advanced productivity tools (Power Automate, MS Copilot).
 
8.   Demonstrated ability to instruct others on IT operations and related tasks.  
 
9.   Demonstrated sound judgment in decision-making, analytical skills, and problem-solving ability. 
 
10. Demonstrated ability to assume responsibility and show initiative. 
 
11. Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, meet deadlines and work in an environment with interruptions.  
 
12. Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail. 
 
13. Good interpersonal and communication skills, strong service orientation, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. 

14. Interest in continued professional development to enhance skills and abilities with emerging and evolving technologies, especially in advanced AI, automation, and workflow improvement.
