Every dispute filed in the country is public record. Almost nobody reads it. You will.


Why This Exists


A federal arbitration system called Independent Dispute Resolution, or IDR, now determines billions of dollars in healthcare payments each year. Providers win the vast majority of disputes, yet most eligible claims are never filed. The process is manual, fragmented, and resource-intensive, and most providers don't have the infrastructure to pursue what they're owed.

The No Surprises Act created the framework, and the market already exists. Today it runs on spreadsheets, consultants, and static playbooks. We're building the first intelligent system designed to operate inside it.

CMS publishes the outcome of every federal dispute. Who filed, against whom, for what, and who won. It arrives as enormous, badly structured public use files that almost nobody in the industry actually mines. That data tells you which providers are under-filing, which competitors are growing, which payers lose most often, and where the market is heading.

This role turns that raw material into an advantage.


Why This Is Hard (and Interesting)


The data is public but it isn't easy. The files are large, inconsistently formatted, and change shape between releases. Entity names don't reconcile cleanly. Getting from raw file to a defensible statement about a specific health system takes real work.

Then there's the interpretation problem. A provider filing very few disputes might be leaving millions on the table, or might have almost no out-of-network volume. Knowing the difference requires understanding the domain, not just the dataset.

Do it well and you produce things nobody else in this market has: a ranked list of who should be our next customer and why, a live picture of how competitors are performing, and an early read on where regulatory change is pushing volume.


Who We Are


Recourse is being built in partnership with 25M Health, a healthtech venture firm. We have institutional backing, a shared platform team spanning engineering, strategy, design, and back-office, and early access to large provider systems.

We are actively filing disputes for real customers, including a large multi-facility health system and a litigation-finance partner with hundreds of millions in claim value. This is a funded, validated opportunity with real customers and real data.

We are a small, nimble team. We move quickly and we value clarity over theater. We want this to be the best work of your career. The stretch you look back on as the one where you shipped real things, with people who raised your game, on something that mattered.

We care about clear thinking, high ownership, intellectual honesty, and direct communication. We believe operations, product, and engineering should operate as one pod, not three functions. We want the machines to do machine work, and the humans to do their best work.


The Role


You'll own the analytical layer underneath our go-to-market. You will:

  • Build and maintain our model of the market from CMS public use files and other public sources
  • Size the opportunity for individual prospects. What is this health system under-filing, and what is it costing them
  • Produce the prospect analysis that our partnerships team leads with in first conversations
  • Track competitors: who is filing, how much, how well they're doing, and what that tells us
  • Monitor regulatory and market shifts and flag what they mean for our strategy before they're obvious
  • Build the tooling that makes this repeatable rather than a manual exercise every quarter
  • Turn analysis into things people can use. Briefs, one-pagers, and models that change decisions


Who You Are


You are genuinely analytical. You can take a large, messy, badly documented dataset and get to a defensible answer. You know the difference between a real pattern and an artifact.

You are curious about the domain, not just the data. The interesting insights here come from understanding how healthcare billing actually works, not just from good technique.

You are AI-pilled. You've used AI tools to accelerate analysis and research that would have taken a team. You have opinions about which ones are useful and which are hype. You stay current because the world is changing and you want to see the next shift before anyone else.

You have a bias to action. You don't wait for perfect data. You form a view, act, measure, adjust. Most decisions are reversible and do not need extensive study.

You are intellectually honest. You seek out what might disconfirm your conclusion. You say when a finding is weak. You'd rather be corrected early than be confidently wrong in front of a customer.

You communicate clearly. Your analysis only matters if it changes what someone does, which means they have to understand it. Plain language, no jargon padding.

You put the team first. You are reliable and fully invested. You take your vacations. You check on your teammates. You help build a culture where people do their best work because they are supported, not squeezed.


What You Bring


  • 2+ years in analytics, data science, strategy, consulting, investment banking, or a similarly quantitative early career
  • Strong SQL and spreadsheet skills. Python or R is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work with large, messy public datasets and produce something trustworthy
  • Hands-on fluency with AI tooling. You've used it to ship or accelerate real analytical work, not just tried the demos
  • Clear written communication. You can turn a complex analysis into a page a busy executive will read
  • A preference for small teams and early-stage chaos over mature org charts

Strong plus, not required: healthcare data experience, or familiarity with claims, revenue cycle, the No Surprises Act, or CMS data specifically. If you have it you'll move faster. If you don't, we'll teach you.

Sound judgment, analytical rigor, and ownership mindset are required. Grit matters more than pedigree.


Why This Role


Most analyst jobs produce reports that inform a decision someone else makes. Here your analysis is the first thing a prospect sees, and it's often the reason they take the meeting. The distance between your work and the outcome is very short.

You'll also be learning a domain that's growing fast and where genuine expertise is scarce. Two years of doing this well makes you one of a small number of people who really understand where the money moves in this market.
