Overview

Are you ready to lead high-impact electrical infrastructure projects that keep communities connected, safe, and moving? As an Area Manager, you will provide leadership and oversight for multiple projects within your assigned area, driving operational excellence from planning through completion.

 

In this role, you will be responsible for managing project performance, financial results, resource allocation, and client relationships while ensuring all work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements. You will collaborate with field leadership, project teams, customers, and industry partners to deliver traffic signal, roadway lighting, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and other electrical infrastructure projects on schedule and within budget.

Success in this position requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and the ability to coordinate multiple teams and projects while maintaining Roadway Electric's commitment to quality, safety, and customer satisfaction

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Provides leadership and oversight for all operational, financial, and contractual aspects of multiple projects within an assigned geographic area, ensuring alignment with company objectives, customer expectations, and contract requirements.
  • Directs project execution by overseeing schedules, staffing plans, equipment utilization, resource allocation, cash flow, and budget performance to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable operations.
  • Reviews contracts, specifications, and supporting documentation to identify risks, resolve conflicts, and ensure successful project delivery. Collaborates with customers, agencies, and stakeholders to address scheduling, scope, and operational challenges.
  • Leads Project Managers, Superintendents, and field leadership teams in planning, executing, and delivering projects while maintaining accountability for safety, quality, schedule, and financial performance.
  • Provides oversight and approval of change order strategies, contract negotiations, and claims management activities to maximize project profitability and maintain positive customer relationships.
  • Reviews and presents monthly area-wide financial reports, including revenue forecasts, cost projections, backlog, and operational performance metrics to executive leadership.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with customers, municipalities, utility partners, contractors, and internal departments to support project success and business growth.
  • Serves as the primary escalation point for key customer concerns, community relations matters, regulatory agencies, and other external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Supports business development initiatives by identifying growth opportunities, assisting with strategic planning, and fostering long-term customer partnerships within the assigned area.
  • Ensures compliance with all company safety policies, regulatory requirements, and customer safety programs through regular field engagement, operational reviews, and leadership participation in safety initiatives.
  • Oversees workforce planning, staffing decisions, equipment allocation, and operational resources to maximize productivity and support area objectives.
  • Partners with legal counsel, risk management, and executive leadership to support dispute resolution, contract administration, and risk mitigation efforts.
  • Provides input on capital equipment acquisitions, procurement strategies, subcontractor utilization, and operational improvements to enhance efficiency and project execution.
  • Leads project and operational closeout activities, ensuring completion of contractual obligations, collection of outstanding receivables, resolution of claims, and execution of lessons-learned reviews to drive continuous improvement.

Who You Are

  • 15+ years’ experience in construction project management required.
  • 10 + years’ experience in managing personnel required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field a plus.
  • Proven experience in bid-build, CMCG, design build and other alternative delivery projects required.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Strong interpersonal skills proven to engage and retain positive working relationships.
  • Strong proven skill to identify, track and manage project risk.
  • Proven ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple departments and direct reports to retain focus on one project completion goal and timeline.
  • Proven ability to identify growth opportunities for project personnel and developed to coach and mentor project personnel.
  • Proven ability to delegate task driven responsibilities to project personnel.
  • Proven knowledge and ability to analyze and interpret financial documentation to identify and mitigate project risk.
  • Advanced and proven interpersonal skills with internal and external contacts.
  • Effective delegation skills to drive efficient, accurate and profitable project completion.
  • Strong ability to appropriately recover funds from claim and dispute resolution.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in managing multiple departments and direct reports to retain focus on one project completion goal and timeline.
  • Strong, inherent ability and drive to negotiate terms of agreement for project work, budget and fund recovery in the project’s best interest.
  • Strong internal branding and sales knowledge to constantly promote yourself and the Company brand.
