Responsibilities

Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma and a current Wisconsin pharmacy technician license. At least 2 years of retail pharmacy experience is preferred, along with knowledge of 340B and Epic software.

We are currently hiring a Retail Pharmacy Technician in Milwaukee, WI. This is a full-time position.

We provide high quality, comprehensive care to roughly 16,000 patients annually'a majority of who are low-income. No one is ever turned away from our clinics based on insurance status or ability to pay. We value a patient-centered philosophy and provide range of services that include family medicine, internal medicine, women's health, urgent care, dental, radiology and integrated behavioral health. We also offer supportive services such as case management, health education and benefits enrollment.

 

Summary

The Pharmacy Technician supports clinical pharmacists in ensuring the safe and effective use of medications by serving as a key liaison between patients, providers, pharmacies, and insurance companies. Working under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, the pharmacy technician plays an important role in delivering medication and pharmaceutical care in communities that are most in need. This includes developing close relationships with patients in communities we serve and assisting the pharmacists in accurately preparing and delivering prescription medication. The technician ensures compliance with PCHC policies, regulatory standards, and Wisconsin Pharmacy Examining Board requirements.


Responsibilities
 

Service – These duties focus on direct support, coordination, and navigation of health and community services to help patients access the care and resources they need.

  1. Always maintains friendly and helpful attitude when dealing with customers.
  2. Always maintains professional working relationships with the pharmacy personnel, physicians, nurses, and other medical personnel.
  3. Understands that the requirements of working in a pharmacy are varied and may change as demands on the department change.

Empowerment – These responsibilities center on providing direct support in medication management, coordinating with pharmacists and healthcare providers, and assisting patients in accessing prescriptions and related healthcare resources.

  1. Ability to become a subject matter expert (SME) in all pharmacy-related workflows, policies, and procedures
  2. Accurate medication name pronunciation.
  3. Assist in developing resources and educational material for various populations.

Compassion – Recognizing areas requiring relief with empathy and care for others.

  1. Utilizes daily huddles to promote communication and efficient clinic flow.
  2. Establishes a compassionate environment by ensuring staff adhere to the organization's professional standards.
  3. Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by monitoring confidential information processing.

Quality – Pursuing excellence in all endeavors.

  1. Maintains a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  2. Organizes medications for pharmacists to dispense by profiling prescriptions; preparing labels and calculating quantities
  3. Ensures medication availability by delivering medications to patients and ordering when needed

  1. In-depth understanding of HIPPA and patient confidentiality.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or general education equivalent required
  • LPT - Licensed Pharmacy Tech Active: current pharmacy technician license in good standing in Wisconsin required
  • At least 2 years with retail pharmacy technician related experience, preferred
  • 340B experience preferred
  • Prior authorization review processes and Epic knowledge preferred
  • Basic computer skills and experience in data entry using Excel, Access or equivalent computer background.
