Overview
As a Dental Sterilization Technician, you will play a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient environment for patient care by ensuring all dental instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and prepared for use. Your commitment to infection control protocols and attention to detail will directly support the overall quality and safety of the dental practice.
Responsibilities
Sterilize dental instruments and equipment following established protocols and manufacturer instructions.
Operate and maintain sterilization equipment, including autoclaves and ultrasonic cleaners.
Inspect instruments and equipment for cleanliness, functionality, and signs of wear or damage.
Organize and distribute sterile instruments and supplies to appropriate treatment rooms.
Maintain sterilization logs and documentation in compliance with OSHA and CDC guidelines.
Monitor and restock sterilization areas, treatment rooms, and supply cabinets with necessary items.
Adhere strictly to infection control and safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Assist in the preparation and maintenance of dental treatment rooms, ensuring cleanliness and readiness for patient care.
Properly dispose of hazardous waste and manage biohazard materials according to regulations.
Report any malfunctioning equipment or safety concerns to appropriate personnel promptly.
Collaborate with dental assistants, hygienists, and clinical staff to ensure seamless patient care.
Assist with inventory management by tracking usage and reporting low stock levels of sterilization supplies
Support compliance with all health and safety standards, as well as regulatory requirements.
Participate in training and continuing education programs related to infection control and sterilization best practices.
Qualifications
Prior experience in a dental or healthcare sterilization role preferred, but not required.
Knowledge of sterilization techniques, infection control standards, and dental equipment handling.
Certification in infection control procedures is a plus.
Familiarity with OSHA regulations concerning sterilization and infection control.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow complex procedures accurately.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
