The MRI Technologist conducts diagnostic imaging procedures using advanced MRI technology to generate images of the body, ensuring accuracy, patient safety, and high-quality results while delivering the highest quality of care in an efficient and pleasant environment.

Requirements

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs MRI procedures on designated anatomical regions in accordance with established protocols and standards of practice
  • Accurately enters patient data, including using two identifiers, medical history, scan area, positioning, and imaging orientation into the system
  • Prepares patients for MRI exams by conducting MRI safety screenings, obtaining medical histories, and clearly explaining procedures
  • Educates patient and family/parents/guardian on procedures and expectations
  • Positions patients appropriately to obtain optimal images, ensuring comfort and safety, including assisting or lifting patients as needed, providing hearing protection and RF pads
  • Instruct patients on communication methods during exams, including proper use of the intercom system and emergency buzzer
  • Demonstrates empathy and actively seeks to understand the patients’ experience, particularly for patients who are claustrophobic, in pain, or experiencing anxiety
  • Inputs scan parameters and selects appropriate imaging sequences, adjusting equipment settings to ensure optimal image quality
  • Ensure safety parameters for each patient regarding magnetic susceptibility hazards and potential adverse reactions, including heating/burns
  • Manages protocol work queue efficiently, assigning and reviewing orders for accuracy and scheduling guidelines, ensuring timely workflow and adherence to departmental priorities
  • Researches and verifies MRI safety guidelines for implants and devices to ensure patient safety and compliance
  • Monitors patients throughout procedures to ensure safety, comfort, and compliance with imaging protocols
  • Evaluates images in real time to confirm diagnostic quality and repeats scans as necessary
  • Collaborates with radiologists to determine the need for additional imaging on non-routine studies.
  • Produces, documents, and archives high-quality diagnostic images for physician interpretation in accordance with documentation standards
  • Adheres to all safety policies and regulatory requirements, always maintaining strict compliance
  • Performs routine equipment quality checks, weekly ACR QA, troubleshoots issues, and coordinates service when necessary
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Follows quality assurance protocols while ensuring strict patient confidentiality
  • Support ACR accreditation, producing quality exams for recertification
  • Collaborate with supporting departments for MRI order accuracies
  • Greet and check in patients when needed
  • Accommodating urgent add-ons for OCR community partners (CSU, Eagles)
  • Professionalism, unity and kindness in the workplace
  • Responsible for completing education requirements to maintain certifications
  • Performs additional duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s Degree from a certified Radiologic Technology program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of imaging procedures performed, specific experience with orthopedics a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software and similar computer applications.
  • Valid American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification, required.
  • Certification in MRI Technology, required.
  • Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification, required.
  • Core competencies in communication, quality product output, and confidentiality.
  • Position requires acceptable motor vehicle driving history, valid and free from restrictions, and must have a valid driver’s license and appropriate vehicle insurance coverage. Ability to travel between all OCR locations.

The position is occasionally exposed to minimal radiation.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls up to 8 hours per day. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear up to 8 hours per day. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl up to 8 hours a day.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and should do so in a sound and safe manner. The employee will regularly assist patients in turning; will frequently assist patient in arising from exam table; will frequently push wheelchair patients; and frequently assists patients in arising from and returning to wheelchair or bed.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
