Full job description

One Physics has been certified as a “Great Place to Work” 3 years in a row as well as “Best Workplaces in Healthcare” in 2022 and 2023 by Fortune. One Physics employees enjoy the support and flexibility of their roles while exhibiting a passion for excellence in all areas of their work. We create a culture where employees feel valued and ensure our communities are receiving the best-in-class treatment they deserve.

The Role

This role will support efforts in the greater Nashville, TN area. The Health Physicist will work under the direction of qualified medical physicists to support hospitals, imaging centers, and outpatient facilities by performing diagnostic imaging equipment performance evaluations and supporting radiation protection programs to ensure compliance with federal and New York state regulations, accreditation standards (ACR, IAC, TJC), and best practices in radiation safety. This role includes performing acceptance testing and annual surveys on x-ray and fluoroscopic equipment, supporting shielding evaluations, assisting with occupational dosimetry programs, and helping clients maintain compliance with the Florida Department of Health Bureau of Radiation Control. The Health Physicist will work closely with senior medical physicists, Radiation Safety Officers (RSOs), and client operational staff. This position is based in the Albany/Saratoga Springs area and is an exempt role.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform performance evaluations, acceptance testing, and annual surveys on diagnostic x-ray equipment, including radiographic, fluoroscopic (ex. c-arm), and dental units under the supervision of a qualified medical physicist.
  • Assist in audits and inspections of radiation safety programs to ensure compliance with NRC, New York Department of Health (Bureau of Radiation Control), and institutional regulations.
  • Support the development, implementation, and review of Radiation Protection Programs and related procedures for medical clients.
  • Assist with monitoring, analyzing, and interpreting occupational radiation dosimetry data; help prepare consultation reports and corrective action recommendations for exposures exceeding ALARA thresholds.
  • Support incident response activities involving potential or actual radiological exposure, contamination, or loss of radioactive material.
  • Assist with shielding evaluations and design reviews for diagnostic imaging facilities, including new construction and renovation projects.
  • Perform area surveys, contamination checks, and exposure assessments for controlled and unrestricted areas.
  • Support clients and regulatory bodies on registration of radiation-producing devices and routine compliance documentation.
  • Provide on-site technical support during inspections by federal or state regulators and assist clients in preparing for and responding to audits.
  • Support the delivery of training and educational sessions on radiation safety, ALARA principles, emergency response, and regulatory compliance to radiation workers and ancillary staff.
  • Maintain records, prepare draft reports, and assist in generating documentation required by regulatory authorities and accrediting bodies (ACR, IAC, TJC, FL DOH).
  • Calibrate, maintain, and inventory test equipment, ensuring instruments are within calibration and ready for field deployment.
  • Perform additional duties, as needed.

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics, medical physics, health physics, radiologic science, biomedical engineering, or a related field; equivalent technical training and field experience may be considered.
  • Prior experience as a medical physicist assistant, radiologic technologist, or QC technologist in a diagnostic imaging or radiation oncology environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of diagnostic x-ray and fluoroscopic equipment performance testing and image quality evaluation.
  • Familiarity with NRC and New York state regulations, NUREG guidance, and applicable ANSI, NCRP, AAPM, and ACR standards.
  • Willingness and ability to pursue continuing education and progression toward CHP, ABSM certification or related credentials, with mentorship from senior medical physicists.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to convey technical concepts to a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated initiative, professionalism, and organizational ability in managing projects and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt solutions to client-specific challenges.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between client sites throughout New York.
  • Commitment to safety, compliance, and excellence in service.

Physical Requirements

A typical day may require remaining in a stationary position for an extended period of time wearing a lead apron, lifting various pieces of test equipment, moving mobile diagnostic medical equipment between rooms at a facility, and driving between client facilities. Drive times may exceed 60 minutes to, from, and in between client facilities. The candidate is expected to communicate with colleagues and clients on a frequent basis. The candidate will operate a computer and other electronic equipment daily. Requires ability to use and move equipment. Infrequent evening or weekend work.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation.
  • PTO plan with paid company holidays.
  • Health Insurance (Medical, Dental, Vision and Prescription).
  • 401(k) Plan with company match after 1 year of employment.
  • Group Life & Voluntary Life Insurance.
  • Short Term & Long Term Disability.
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
  • Health Spending Account (HSA).

Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including geographic location, as well as candidate experience, education level and expertise. If you have questions on compensation, please ask your recruiter.
