Responsibilities

The inspector drives to excavation sites to ensure compliance with New York State Code Rule 753 regarding underground facility protection. Responsibilities include promoting safe excavation practices and documenting site visits via an electronic device.

Requirements

Candidates must possess a valid driver's license with a clear DMV record and be able to pass DOT drug and alcohol testing. Proficiency with tablets and the ability to work independently in various weather conditions are required.

Full job description

Work Location: Westchester County, Yonkers, NY and Surrounding Areas
Work Hours: Monday thru Friday - 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
Rate of Pay: $21 - $23/hr

Full Benefits: Sick Time, PTO, Paid Holidays, Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k) with Matching, etc.

Position Summary:

Perform tasks involving driving to various excavation sites to assure compliance with New York State Code Rule 753 regarding the protection of underground facilities.

Essential Functions:

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Safely drive to various excavation locations.
  • Assure compliance with all regulations of the New York State Code Rule 753 regarding the protection of underground facilities.
  • Comply with good safety practices at excavation sites.
  • Promote safe excavation practices via conversation with excavators.
  • Communication throughout the day with Field Supervisor, Dispatcher(s), Area Division Supervisors and Contractors as needed.
  • Data entry of all excavation site visits on electronic device provided.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Incl. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Must have a valid driver's license and clear Dept. of Motor Vehicle (DMV) record 
  • If driving Company vehicle, must be responsible for basic upkeep (e.g., cleanliness).
  • Travel outside assigned territory when needed.
  • Ability to perform verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities per work schedule.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions over various communication methods.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize daily work.
  • Represent the Company and Damage Prevention Program in a professional manner through all interactions / contacts daily.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Ability to understand and communicate Code Rule 753
  • Pass Pre-Employment and Random Drug/Alcohol Testing

        DOT / Drug & Alcohol Testing Compliance:

        This position is safety-sensitive and subject to U.S. Department of Transportation   (DOT) drug and alcohol testing regulations. As a condition of employment,         employees must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and remain eligible for random testing. Marijuana use is prohibited for this position under federal DOT regulations, regardless of New York State or any other state law. A positive test for marijuana will result in removal from safety-sensitive duties and may result in termination of employment.

Computer Skills: Proficient in using personal computer / tablet.

  1. Task 22B - Inspection of Third-Party Excavations for Damage Prevention
  2. Task 23/24 - Inspecting the Condition of Exposed Pipe
  3. Task 70 - 70A - Abnormal Operating Conditions(Critical AOC) and 70B - Properties of Natural Gas
  4. Task 71 - Excavation & Backfill
  5. Task 85 - 85A - Meter Assembly Abnormal Operating Conditions(Critical AOC) and 85B - Meter Assembly Fundamentals and Substandard Conditions


Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

The employee regularly works near and inside excavation areas and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat, and humidity.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to suggest safe excavating practices and pass out literature pertaining to Code Rule 753. The employee frequently is required to use hands to operate or feel objects, tools, or controls, is required to stand, walk, climb, and balance. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
