Company: Oklahoma State Fair, Inc. 

Position Title: AgriBusiness Horse Show Assistant

Department: 2026 Oklahoma State Fair

Reports To:  AgriBusiness Specialist

Supervises: N/A

Classification: Seasonal, Hourly 

Pay Range: $10-$12/hr (dependent upon experience)

This position is a seasonal role with an anticipated start date, end date and number of hours per week/month as outlined below. Employment is tied to seasonal business demands and is not guaranteed beyond the seasonal period. While there may be opportunities for other or intermittent hours outside of the stated period, any such hours are contingent upon business needs, workload, and operational requirements and do not change the seasonal nature of the position. This position does not carry a guarantee of minimum hours or continued employment beyond the seasonal term. This will be a temporary, part-time and hourly position for employment related to the 2026 Oklahoma State Fair. No other benefits, except those required by law, apply. Applications will continue to be accepted until position has been filled.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist the AgriBusiness Specialist with Horse Shows held during the Fair.
  • Serve as staff liaison, answering questions from potential participants, additional staff, officials and the public.
  • Serve as staff assistant during the Fair, processing credentials, competition entry forms, necessary reports and forms as required for each event/each day of the Fair.
  • Assist with correspondence and communication, updating database and data entry for show entries, as well as processing and inputting results during the Fair.
  • Assist in the preparation of competition sites, arranging and distribution of awards, results and tabulation.
  • Assist in other departments as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Job Requirements

  • Knowledge of Microsoft software (Word, Excel, and Access) and Adobe InDesign. 
  • A basic knowledge of the equine industries and competition requirements and protocol.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean motor vehicle record.
  • Must be comfortable and knowledgeable with regard to working around animals as work will take place mainly within and around barns and arenas being used for Horse Shows.

General Requirements

  • Must be available and willing to work every day of the 2026 Oklahoma State Fair, September 17-27.
  • Have access to daily, reliable transportation.
  • Be positive, enthusiastic and cooperative.
  • Maintain a friendly, professional, calm demeanor in all situations.
  • Be flexible as job instructions may change from time to time.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully in English (speak, read, write).
  • Maintain a high standard of appearance and grooming (i.e., clean, wrinkle free clothing, proper uniform/attire, close attention to personal hygiene).

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Must have the ability to work in a high-volume, high-stress environment.
  • Extended hours, nights and weekends are required during peak periods.
  • Frequent or continual movement covering long distances with ease and normal physical mobility.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in potentially inclement/severe weather conditions.
  • Regularly lift, carry and put away items weighing up to 25 lbs. unassisted, and occasionally lift and carry heavier items and/or assist others in lifting heavier objects, as job demands.
  • Stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Other prolonged and/or intermittent physical exertions may be required including, but not limited to, seeing, hearing, lifting, reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, squatting, crouching, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in awkward positions and tight areas.

Additional Information

  • Depending upon skills, some positions may offer opportunities to assist for a few days prior to and after the Fair.
  • Specialized positions will be applied to individuals with experience regarding paddock management, gate control, ribbon distribution, course design and set up, and assisting the announcer with placings and return class qualifications. 
  • Identification badges will be provided for clocking in and out.
  • Paychecks will be MAILED post-Fair.
