The opportunity:

The Director of Communications is a pivotal role at Odyssey responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive external communications strategy that also encompasses medical affairs and investor relations activities. Reporting to the Head of Strategy & BD, this individual will be primarily responsible for external communication strategy and implementation and support medical affairs activities (including healthcare professionals, patients, and advocacy groups) and support investor relations functions. The ideal candidate is a seasoned life sciences communications professional who thrives at the intersection of science, finance, and storytelling, and who brings deep expertise in managing the communications demands of a publicly traded biotech company.

Your primary objectives will be:  

Corporate Communications

  • Build and execute a proactive corporate communications strategy that conveys the company's scientific vision and capabilities, pipeline progress, and corporate milestones to a broad range of audiences
  • Manage relationships with financial communications firms and media contacts across healthcare and financial press
  • Draft, edit, and oversee the distribution of press releases, corporate announcements, and media statements, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and corporate messaging
  • Develop and maintain key message documents, scientific background files, and corporate fact sheets for internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with the CFO and the General Counsel on all SEC-required disclosures and financial communications, ensuring accuracy, regulatory compliance, and consistent messaging
  • Prepare executives for media interviews, conference presentations, and investor meetings and maintain records for communications planning, including through the ownership of internal Q&A materials
  • Develop and maintain the corporate website and digital content and communications
  • Oversee the company's social media strategy and ensure consistency of voice across all external channels
  • Work closely with the CEO, CFO, CMO, General Counsel, and Head of Strategy & BD to align communications with corporate objectives and ensure consistent messaging across all channels

Medical Affairs Communications

  • Partner with the Chief Medical Officer and medical affairs to craft clear, accurate and compliant communications around clinical trial milestones, data readouts, and regulatory interactions
  • Translate complex scientific and clinical data into compelling narratives appropriate for investors, media, and in collaboration with medical affairs, HCPs, patient audiences and advocacy groups
  • Develop plan and coordinate the initiation, preparation, review and approval of manuscripts, abstracts, posters, oral presentations, and review articles
  • Support planning and execution of medical congress activities; lead distribution of summaries and intelligence  
  • Develop and execute a medical communications plan aligned with the overall Medical Affairs strategy
  • Lead development and coordinate the review and approval of HCP and patient-facing scientific materials including, but not limited to, scientific slide decks, frequently asked questions (FAQs), scientific narratives, disease state education materials, and mechanism of action presentations

 Investor Relations

  • Support the company's investor relations program, including the annual IR strategy, messaging framework, and engagement calendar (including healthcare investor conference, non-deal roadshows, and relevant industry events)
  • Serve as a point of contact for the investment community and support relationship management with all stakeholders, including sell-side analysts, institutional investors, and retail shareholders
  • Support preparation of investor presentations, earnings call press releases and scripts, Q&A materials, and analyst day content in collaboration with the CEO, CFO, General Counsel and Head of Strategy & BD

About you:

  • Bachelor's degree required with minimum 8 years of progressive experience in corporate communications or medical affairs, or a combination thereof, with at least 5 years in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical sector
  • Direct experience supporting a publicly traded company, with knowledge of SEC disclosure requirements, public company communications best practices, and compliance for HCP and patient interactions
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex scientific and financial information for diverse audiences
  • Experience interacting with healthcare-focused or generalist investors, sell-side analysts, and financial media
  • Expertise in inflammation and immunology (I&I) therapeutic areas preferred; experience across other therapeutic areas will also be considered
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Willingness to travel as needed for investor events and conferences

Preferred

  • Familiarity with key opinion leader (KOL) engagement strategies and patient advocacy communications in inflammatory or immunological disease areas
  • Experience at post IPO companies building public-facing communications strategy
  • Experience in I&I and, specifically, inflammatory bowel disease
  • Advanced scientific degree (e.g., PhD, PharmD, or MS)
  • Experience with social media platforms (e.g., LinkedIn and X)
  • Experience with digital IR platforms (e.g., Q4 IR, Notified/PR Newswire, Bloomberg Intelligence)
