Job DetailsJob Location: Oklahoma Christian School - Edmond, OK 73034Job Summary: This position reports to and is evaluated by the high school principal. The high school classroom teacher prayerfully helps students learn subject matter, skills, and behavior that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible Christian men and women to the praise and glory of God.

Required Professional Qualities

Bachelor’s degree in secondary education or related field; or willingness to participate in a program to complete such a degree within a specified period.
ACSI or state teaching certificate

Demonstrate a reasonable level of computer literacy. Basic proficiency is needed in word processing, e-mailing, and accessing the internet.
Possess evidence of other adequate preparation, background, or experience as determined by the school administrator.

Required Spiritual Qualities

A strong, clear Christian testimony (Ephesians 4:1)
A lifestyle of biblical integrity (1 Peter 3:16)
Believe and actively support the OCS Parent Covenant, Statement of Faith, Statement on Marriage and Sexuality, Statement on Diversity and Core Values (all attached)
Have a conviction that God has called him/her to Christian School teaching (Romans 12:7)
Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions toward others (1 Peter 5:2)
Maintain high standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity in all personal and professional matters
Actively involved in church (Hebrews 10:24-25)
Encourages students to accept God’s gift of salvation and grow in their faith (Matthew 18:15-17)
Follows the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with interpersonal conflict

Essential Job Functions

Spiritual Leadership

Work with the administration and staff to address the spiritual formation needs of the students (Galatians 4:19)
Model victorious Christian living to students and families (Philippians 2:1-5)
Share and explain the gospel message to students (Romans 10:14-15)
Integrate the Bible into all subject matter (2 Timothy 4:2)
Carry out direct Bible teaching (Colossians 3:16)
Model and help students to resolve conflict biblically (Matthew 18:15-17)
Pray for students, parents, staff, and the entire OCS community
(1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

Academic Leadership

Have knowledge and understanding of the Christian philosophy of education that will enable him/her to provide leadership and guidance in the school’s development of and commitment to a biblical worldview.
Integrate biblical principles and worldview throughout the curriculum and activities
Know about the physical/emotional development of children, particularly at the age level of the children being taught, and understand the problems they face.
Effectively partners with parents
Ministers to the whole child—spiritual, intellectual, physical, social, emotional
Maintains a teaching environment conducive to student learning
Teaches classes as assigned and scheduled by the administrator
Demonstrates mastery of the subject matter
Proactively plans for curriculum instruction
Uses effective teaching methods to challenge students intellectually
Effectively utilizes educational technology
Teaches and designs curriculum from a biblical worldview
Pursues professional development opportunities
Uses formative and summative assessments to promote student learning
The classroom teacher is responsible for reviewing all assigned students' S.O.A.R. Learning Plans and students’ Accommodation Plans, and for the faithful implementation of all documented accommodations, modifications, and specialized services within their classroom, including modifying instructional content, process, and products to ensure students with learning differences can access the general education curriculum.
The Teacher will work collaboratively with special education staff to implement, monitor, and document the progress of students towards their Learning Plan goals and Accommodation Plans, respectively.

Administrative Leadership

Adheres to all policies and procedures governing the operation of the school
Keep proper discipline in the classroom, at school-sponsored activities, and on the school premises for an effective learning environment
Arrange for substitute teachers by placing notice in Frontline when needed, and assist them in successfully carrying out their responsibilities
Respect professional ethics that require confidentiality concerning the sharing of information about children, parents, or staff
Attends and arrives punctually to scheduled devotional, committee, and faculty meetings
Attends and carries out effective parent-teacher conferences
Maintains regular and accurate attendance and grade records
Proactively communicates with parents and administrators
Maintains professional dress and appearance as specified in the Employee Handbook
Represents the school favorably and professionally to its constituency
Complete and maintain ACSI certifications annually

Additional Duties or Responsibilities

Attends high school events such as open houses, etc.
Works co-curricular concessions/gate 2 times a year @ the rate of $10/hour
Maintains a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom
Participates in the end-of-year closing of the school process, such as inventorying of textbooks, furniture, equipment, etc.
Treats all school-owned technology (hardware and software) with respect, care, professionalism, and in accordance with the Technology Use Agreement

Community Building Opportunities

Support the broader program of the school by attending extracurricular activities when possible. (Back to School Worship night, Big Bash, school trips, drama production, athletic events, band performances, Fine Arts night, etc.)
