Full job description

Mechanical Foreman

The Ocean County Utilities Authority, a public wastewater treatment facility consisting of three treatment plants and 40 pumping stations, is presently seeking a Mechanical Foreman. The position is located in Brick, NJ.

The Mechanical Foreman is responsible for leading and supervising a team of Mechanics, Mechanic Aides, and Mechanic/Welders in the repair, installation, maintenance, and overhaul of mechanical equipment throughout the Authority's treatment facilities, pump stations, and related infrastructure. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the reliable operation of critical equipment by coordinating daily maintenance activities, supporting preventive maintenance programs, and assisting with the planning and scheduling of maintenance projects.

Working closely with the Maintenance Supervisor, the Mechanical Foreman helps oversee equipment reliability, inventory and work order management, budget planning, and emergency preparedness. The position is also responsible for enforcing Authority safety policies, conducting employee training, maintaining accountability for vehicles, tools, and equipment, and providing leadership through performance management, coaching, and supervision of maintenance personnel. In the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Mechanical Foreman assists in coordinating division operations to ensure uninterrupted mechanical maintenance and equipment performance.

Qualified candidates will possess a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of five years of experience repairing and maintaining large industrial mechanical equipment, preferably in a wastewater treatment or similar industrial environment. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills are essential, along with proficiency using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), Microsoft Office applications, equipment manuals, and mechanical schematics. Candidates must possess a valid New Jersey driver's license, with the ability to obtain additional licenses or certifications, including a Commercial Driver License and Low Pressure Boiler Operator's License (Black Seal), if required.

This position requires a hands-on leader who is committed to safety, teamwork, and operational excellence. The successful candidate must be available to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis, participate in emergency preparedness activities, and perform work that may require the use of specialized safety equipment. At least 5 years of experience as a Mechanic in a Wastewater Treatment Facility are required. A mechanical trade school certificate and previous supervisory experience are preferred.

The Authority offers a competitive annual salary range of $90,696.00 to $94,006.00 (depending on qualifications) with an excellent benefits package including State pension (PERS), Health Benefits, 12 paid holidays and generous paid time off. Candidates may be eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness. For immediate consideration please apply online today at ocua.com and click Careers.
