Our team consists of 20 skilled bariatric surgeons with years of experience. We use innovative new solutions to successfully get our patients on the path to improved health.

Our Plastic Surgery department is a natural extension of our award-winning bariatric practice, supporting patients in their overall transformation journey following weight loss. Built on the same foundation of exceptional patient experience and clinical excellence, our team partners closely with our bariatric surgeons to help patients achieve both functional and aesthetic outcomes after significant weight loss. We provide comprehensive surgical solutions across NY, NJ, and CT, with a strong emphasis on individualized care, safety, and long-term patient satisfaction.

Responsibilities

STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Surgical Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and scheduling cosmetic and reconstructive surgical procedures while ensuring an exceptional patient experience throughout the surgical process. This position requires strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

The Surgical Coordinator serves as the primary liaison between patients, surgeons, surgery centers, hospitals, and ancillary providers to ensure all surgical requirements are completed accurately and efficiently. The individual must respond promptly to scheduling inquiries, procedure changes, and patient concerns while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinated and scheduled cosmetic and reconstructive surgical procedures across office-based ORs, ambulatory surgery centers, and hospitals while managing surgeon, facility, anesthesia, and vendor availability.
  • Served as the primary patient liaison, guiding patients through the consultation-to-surgery process, providing education, pre/post-operative instructions, and ensuring a high level of patient satisfaction.
  • Managed cosmetic surgery logistics, including treatment plan reviews, financial agreements, deposits, payment schedules, and financing coordination.
  • Verified insurance benefits, secured prior authorizations, and coordinated documentation for reconstructive procedures.
  • Oversaw pre-operative requirements, including medical clearances, laboratory testing, imaging, consents, and compliance with surgeon protocols.
  • Maintained accurate patient records, surgical schedules, and EMR documentation while coordinating with vendors, ancillary providers, and clinical teams.
  • Ensured compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, accreditation standards, and practice policies while supporting departmental initiatives and special projects.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to build rapport with patients.
  • Experience working in a surgical, cosmetic, or medical practice environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of surgical scheduling processes and coordination.
  • Familiarity with plastic surgery procedures and terminology preferred.
  • Proficiency in EMR systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Professional appearance, demeanor, and conduct.
  • Positive attitude with a strong commitment to patient satisfaction.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s degree or some college coursework preferred.
  • Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery, dermatology, surgical specialty, or related healthcare practice preferred.
  • Experience with surgical scheduling, insurance verification, and prior authorization processes preferred.
  • Knowledge of cosmetic surgery financing and patient coordination is a plus.
