New England Donor Services (NEDS) coordinates organ and tissue donation in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, the eastern counties of Vermont and Bermuda. Responsible for one of the largest of the 55 Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) that make up the nation’s donation system, NEDS works with over 200 hospitals and serves nearly 15 million people in our region, screening nearly 55,000 potential donor referrals annually. With nearly $150M in operating revenues, NEDS employs 399 clinical and non-clinical staff members throughout New England and across the country.
Our vision is to be a leader in the development and implementation of strategies to increase the life-saving and life-enhancing gifts of organ and tissue donation through effective relationships with our clinical partners, donor families and the communities we serve.
Job Description
As an Organ Surgical Recovery Coordinator, you will be present in the OR assisting surgeons as they recover organs, and you will facilitate the process for organ preservation including the use of cutting edge mechanical perfusion devices. You will also independently perform the recovery of corneas and heart valves for transplant from deceased donors. Additionally, you will be responsible for arranging the logistics for the recovery of organs for transplant by organizing team transportation and communicating with NEDS and hospital staff. At the end of each day, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you contributed to life saving and life enhancing initiatives.
Schedule:
This is a full-time position with 24 hour on-call shifts. Shifts begin at 8:00am and end at 8:00am. In a 6 week (42 day) period, you will be on-call 28 days, which will include 8 weekend days and 20 weekdays. Expect to work overnights, holidays and weekends.
We are now interviewing and hiring for our upcoming Summer 2026 New Hire Orientation classes.
Qualifications
Associates degree or minimum of 2 years professional experience
Medical Terminology and clinical experience in a medical/healthcare field is required
Aseptic Technique is preferred but not required
Excellent organizational skills and a strong attention to detail
Basic computer skills including MS Office Suite and Outlook, and ability to learn new internal NEDS systems required
Must be able to work long hours including overnights, holidays and weekends
Must live within a 60 minute commute to Waltham, MA
Additional Qualifications
Must be able to physically lift up to 50 pounds
Must be comfortable with traveling on a small aircraft
This position requires travel to Waltham Headquarters and various hospitals throughout New England
