Responsibilities

The Day Habilitation Staff/CNA provides direct, person-centered care and supervision to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Responsibilities include assisting with daily living activities, facilitating community inclusion, and supporting individuals in achieving their personal care goals.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the State of Texas and possess a high school diploma or GED. Experience working with individuals with disabilities and a valid driver's license are preferred.

The Day Habilitation Staff / CNA is responsible for providing direct care, supervision, and individualized support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in a Day Habilitation setting. This position promotes independence, community integration, personal growth, and overall well-being while ensuring a safe, respectful, and person-centered environment. The CNA component includes assisting with personal care and daily activities.

SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday 07:30am to 04:00pm

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Direct Support

  • Provide compassionate, person-centered care to individuals receiving Day Habilitation services.
  • Assist individuals in achieving goals identified in their Individual Plan of Care (IPC/IPP).
  • Encourage participation in daily activities, social interactions, recreational programs, and community outings.
  • Promote independence by teaching and reinforcing daily living and self-help skills.
  • Support individuals in making choices while respecting their rights, dignity, and preferences.

Personal Care

  • Assist with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, oral hygiene, and other activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed.
  • Assist with transfers, ambulation, mobility devices, and positioning while following proper body mechanics.
  • Maintain individuals’ comfort, cleanliness, and overall hygiene throughout the day.
Program Activities

  • Assist in implementing educational, vocational, recreational, and therapeutic activities.
  • Facilitate community inclusion activities while ensuring participant safety.
  • Encourage communication, positive behaviors, and healthy social relationships.
  • Support individuals during meals and snacks while monitoring dietary restrictions and choking precautions when applicable.

Qualifications

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the State of Texas (preferred or required, depending on position).
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (if transporting individuals).
  • Ability to pass required background checks.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Compassionate, patient, and respectful attitude toward individuals with disabilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to health or behavioral concerns.
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
